I haven't heard anything about HTP in a couple of years, but their welders used to be made in Hungary. Someone on this forum suggested that the letters might stand for Hungarian Tool Products, which I thought was reasonable.

When I looked into their products (I watched their video and read their catalog) I felt like they gave you a lot for your money. One minor complaint I heard about was that the circuitry in their mig welders involved mechanical linkage instead of being completely solid state. Even on the video you could hear something go clunk every time the trigger was pulled.

As for Italian industrial products, as far as I'm concerned they're only good looking. I bought a very small Italian arc welder from Harbor Freight---totally useless. My wife and an old friend of mine each used to own Fiat sports cars---cute, but totally useless. And what about the 9mm Beretta which replaced our 1911 .45ACP as the Army sidearm---poorly engineered and failure prone. My advice if you want to buy Italian is: stick to olive oil or shoes---they're good at those.

Well Stan, that was probably me, but I think I said Hungarian Technical Products. Anyway, it makes no difference. And yes, the contactor is mechanical on my mig240. I have had two problems with the unit. One was a loose connection at one of the wire controls which I fixed with a screwdriver. The other was a bad low pressure regulator after over a year's use. The factory sent a complete new set but it was calibrated in metric units and the gauges were half the size of the originals. Hard to see from a distance of 12 feet. I decided to locate the problem in the original: I found the case was not screwed together tightly and the gasket had been installed off center so it had start leaking. I cut a new gasket and put the reg back in service. Still works today. BTW, I had a choice of 10', 12' or 15' cable with a Tweco gun. I took the 12'. I also replaced the pencil thin metric power cord with a 12/3 heavy cord.
