Mig welder

I have a Harbor Freight Mig welder made about 1980. Needs a new rectifier. Tried to get one from H-F with no success. My question is this, Do I really need the rectifier, will it work with ac. Is there something else I can use it for besides a boat anchor. or can I adapt it to work off of my old Craftsman 175 amp stick welder. The only problem is that the mig welder has no identification on it identifying it as to size, no serial or model # seems it came from the Chinese factory that way, (kind of shady, don't you think ?) the old hobart company got split up years ago.thermal arc bought hobarts big welder line. ITT owns miller and hobart.hobart is made in the same factory as miller.hobart has a little less duty cycle than miller.the small miller and hobart buss box stick welders are the same machine,just diffirent colors.

Can you post a picture of the rectifier, along with any numbers that may be on it? Likely, it is a standard electronic part, and can be obtained, if the required values (amps and PIV) can be figured out.

Actually, as long as you can figure out a way to mount it, the rectifier assembly out of any MIG welder with a similar or higher current capacity should work. Might look at replacement parts for a newer one. The all run about the same arc voltage, so as long as the rectifiers can handle the maximum current they should be good to go.

I wish I could but it's long gone, I can tell you that it was three square pieces of aluminum plates about 2-3/4" square. with three leads on it.

You get what you pay for and when you want to buy cheep you get cheep so you have a boat anchor . If you want a welder that you can get parts for then you buy Miller Lincoln or hobart.

I got the thing cause it had the industrial Co, and argon tanks I don't really care about the thing I just have a problem throwing good stuff away. And as a matter of fact I heve plans of getting a new Hobart, No Lincoln or Miller but not cheap.
