Premium vs. Synthetic Blend Motorcraft 5W30 oil

All I can find in this area is Motorcraft 5W30 Synthetic Blend motor oil. I used to use just the premium non synthetic. Does anyone know what the deal is?? Has Ford quit making Premium NON SYNTHETIC oil?? Will the synthetic blend hurt your engine? Can you switch back to regular oil ?

This is just my opinion, and all are welcome to flame away at will, but I think everyone should make their decision to either go synthetic or don't. This halfway nonsense is just a way for the oil companies to pick up a few extra bucks off consumers that want to make their cars last but can't afford or don't understand synthetic oil. Also, unless you're planning to replace a lot of gaskets and seals, I wouldn't make the switch to synthetic after the engine has accumulated 50 or 60,000 miles. Lastly, brand loyalty has almost no value. I've owned cars with over 180,000 miles never paying more than $.80/qt. for Walmart brand oil. No leaks, no rattles, no bearing failures. What more could you ask from your motor oil? There's more to gain from changing the oil more often than from buying a more expensive brand.

Just dump in the Mobil 1 extended milage 5-w30 it's good for 15,000 miles but I have been dumping every 10,000 and make sure you use mobil 1 's filter sold at auto zone or the fram xtra life filter that is good for 7000 miles but I have had no problems running it 10,000 .

If the non-synthetic version has been discontinued it must be rather recent.Ford doesn"t make motor oil.To the best of my knowledge ,the Motorcraft oil is made by Conoco-Phillips and is comparable if not identical to the Phillips Tropartic line of oils and that the synthetic blend(Motorcraft and Phillips) have a significantly higher percentage of synthetic content compared to many other brands of blends.I"ve tried various brands of oils,am currently using the Phillips Tropartic synblend(10w/30) and let me tell you this is one sweet,smooth running oil in my GM 3800 v-6.You didn"t mention your driving conditions or typical oil change interval,but unless it"s very cold or you do alot of short hops where the engine doesn"t get fully warmed,I"d be using a 10w/30 oil in that vehicle with 90k on the clock and would have no problem running it 5,000 miles if it got some highway usage.It"s the short trips,cold engine,lots of idling that dirty the oil quicker with condensation,blowby and fuel dilution and should be changed more often.So,no ,the synthetic blend won"t hurt your engine as it"s actually a superior oil to the conventional, and in my book either the motorcraft or Phillips is great bang for the buck considering it sells for less than some other brands that aren"t even a synblend.

I use Valvoline Dura Blend 5W-30 in my 2003 Ford Truck it is part Premium & part Synthetic Oil
it is as good as any 5W-30 Oil as you can buy for any Car,SUV & Truck I buy it at Wal-mart

a synthetic blend will not hurt your engine. the synthetic blends contain additives that help reduce friction in your engine. if you are near any sort of chain auto parts store, or even a wal-mart, you should be able to find synthetic and regular blends of oil. also if you have a regular mechanic, most are happy to give some good oil advice. good luck.

I have a 2000 Explorer with a 4.0 Liter SHOC engine, a 5R55E transmission with 4 wheel drive. I have always used Mobil 1 full synthetic 10W-30 in the engine and Valvoline Mercon V in the transmission. I also use Valvoline Mercon in the transfer case, Valvoline Synthetic blend 80W-90 in the rear axle, and Valvoline full synthetic in the power steering. All systems still work just fine. I would like to use Red Line Products but they are generally inaccessible at my location.
