don't know if anyone ever buys fuel injection cleaner around here...went to store today and there must be a dozen different choices....price range from couple of bucks to ten or so a bottle. my question is what kind does a person buy, and what is the difference between the "cheap stuff and the good stuff" i just want to maintain the injection system and prevent pluggin, as wifes car tends to misfire every so often if i don't do in (2000 lesabre 3.8 litre..thankss deanop

I"ve had actual misfires and vehicles failed smog test that a bottle of Techron has solved.
Not to take away from the more thorough cleaning methods like MotorVac & Accuclean, which are sometimes needed.
The lesser method of "fix in a can" has worked over a long period more than a few times, just depends on how bad it is.

Magic in a can ??? techtron is good stuff. By and by ,most cans you dump in tank the cleaner is so diluted by time it gets to injectors . THE BEST Injector cleaner I have found and use in the shop daily is "Motor Vac " Very good results with this stuff. Loosens up carbon on valves , clesn injectors and rails . It is a system that has it's own tank and pump . Bypassing vehicles fuel tank it is a much more concentrated mixture getting to the injectors . Average charge runs 90-95 but does great job !

Tectron made by chevron. At 1/2 a tank are less add a bottle and run it 100 miles then fill up. Do not add more than 3 bottles per oil change it will contaminate the oil. i have a snap-on and a BG cleaner and use Tectron in both set ups. Their izz 2 types of tectron git the big 12 oz bottle of concentrate. The BG stuff izz nuttin more than tectron just cost twice as much. The BG intake cleaning system will take care of a lot of drivability issues I do use their products in that application The BG cleaning system has took care of a lot of issues that nuttin else would help. Restricted fuel injectors are sumwhat a thing of the past. Restrictions do git into the inlet screen of the injector and far as I know no cleaner in a bottle izz gonna clean the screen it will take a ultrasonic cleaner to git that and must be removed and sent out fer cleaning

Let me throw in a couple here. Love the Tectron stuff! About nine years ago my 1987 Dodge caravan would not pass due to the cat not up to snuff. A local Mech. advized to put 1/4 tank of gas with one whole bottle of Tectron. Run it around the block a few times and then run over to the inspection station. Sitting in line the oil idiot light was flickerin everything was so hot and it DID go through! Next stop was the gas pump and a full tank of gas. This same poor old bomb with 240,000 miles on it STILL passed just this last August. Stuff worked for me! Jeffcat

I use BG 44K most of the time. It is about $20.00 per can. One time a year.
The Techron is also a very good product and costs less and seems to work quite well also.
I have also heard that Sea Foam makes a good one as well. Haven't tried it yet.
I have had no luck with the cheap $3.00 stuff. Mostly alcohol and if you are using oxi fuel you are allready getting that.

you can do what is called a BG treatment. that uses compressed air while your engine is running to clean out your injectors with more than the pressure that is coming from your regulator. it is much more involved than a "pour in tank" injector cleaner, but it is supposed to be the best. You were also mentioning a misfire. that may be a deeper problem than an injector. try a cylinder balance test with the engine running to see if it is a cylinder specific problem or something systemwide. good luck.

mechman has a good point. The motor flush system by BG is the best. It will cost you about $75.00 to have done but really does a good job.

I agree with mechman and gregCo.The bottles of injector cleaner are a total waste of money; a scam of sorts. The only way to successfully clean injectors(which isn't a thing of the past, but more common than ever before) is the use of an air regulated pressure canister.I use a mixture of GM Top engine cleaner and gasoline at a 20/80(respectively) rate. $70 in my shop.Injector balance test would confirm clogged injector.~brad

Been using techron since I bought my 83 Cadillac. Used it in my Chrysler, my Towncar and my Mazda pickups. All except the new Mazda went well over 200,000 miles with no fuel problems other than mice eating the wiring harnesses twice. It costs more, but it works. If fuel filters are kept up, name brand gas used, you only need it about every 30-40 thousand miles. Why not go first class and not worry? If you need it more often, you"re saving yourself poor somewhere else.
