Anyone own a John Deere 40.5" tool cart/chest like the one in their spring flyer. It is the ones with the ball bearings but not the professional series. (TY24204 & TY24387)It is on sale for $1,200 for the set.

I was just trying to find a comparison to craftsman. I am sure Waterloo makes it (don't they make most!!) but the design seems to be slightly different (I-beams compared to post/pillar).

Since you seem unsure about which box to buy, why not check out some of the alternatives.

Waterloo makes a lot of units but they make only a small percentage of the market. FYI, the Waterloo plant making various brands is completely seperatre from the plant making the Craftsman range exclusively. Other than the same manufacturing techniques, there might be nothing the same between a Craftsman and a Waterloo box.

Some other good U.S. actual manufacturers of boxes and chests might have web sites. You might check out Snap-On, MAC, MATCO, Kennedy, Metal Box, Homak, Stack-On and Remline. Each of these companies remain in business because they have something competitive to offer.

Good luck. There are plenty of good units to choose from.

Hi Larry, A few years ago I had an almost new, large Waterloo bottom box that had roller drawer guides and was pretty heavy duty. A local tool supply company had a new box identical to mine in design and dimensions with a different name on it, and made with thinner gauge metal. I always wondered what the deal was. Based on what you said, it sounds like Waterloo routinely makes the same basic product in different quality levels. Thanks for the post...Al English

Larry,
I currently have a "cheap" stack-on cart and chest with a Homack side cabinet and a Waterloo chest converted to a center set of drawers between by cart and chest. It might be junky looking but it has served me for 15 years.

Out of room now, I have been looking for quite some time but do not want to pay for the Snap-on, Mac, or MATCO price. I am not a mechanic but run a not-for-profit wildlife property with all of the shop tools in the shop being my own. Kind of similiar to a farm operation situation in scope.

I am familiar with Kennedy but don't like their designs. Familiar with the Rem-line name but have never seen one. Also have seen the Kobalt chest sold at lowes that I heard are made by the same Company that makes Snap-on. They are built with thicker drawers than Craftsman but lack drawer deepness and selction is limited.

I like the selection of craftsman especially their new 52" but the drawers are constructed of thin metal. Guess I want a Snap-on/Mac setup at a Craftsman price. The nice thing is I can arrange with my local sears store to get me 6 months interest free
to ease the wallet shock. Could even buy the chest and cart at seperate times to ease it even more.

I have other obligations like most and hate to spend so much spend at one time but want to buy something that last for $1,000-$1,500.

I have a Husky tool chest. I bought it at home depot. They have almost as many boxes to choose from as Sears, seem as if not more heavy duty, for a little bit cheaper
