I buried my dad on Tuesday, he had been sick for about 8 years and slowly going down hill. Its been a long time coming with alot of close calls in those 8 years and I thought I was prepared for it to happen but was not when it did .I guess you think they will live forever..I know my dad was a christian and knew the Lord ..but it still hurts

Randy,
The pain of loss will pass. It just takes time.
Look for the positive in all this. My Dad died +4 years ago and gave me his old tractor. That led me to this Board. Dad's looking down right now saying, "what'll they think of next with these computers!" Hope this helps some.

Sorry about your dad. Knowing that he is home with the Lord is good. My wifes dad is in the hospital, bladder cancer. He is supposed to get Chemo-treatments but his blood pressure is too low and there is a problem with his potassium level or something, He may need a nepronetomy-(Kidney removal) He is a mess. That what smoking does for you. I doubt that he will last another year. He was diagnosed with it a year ago. He is only 58. Very sad.

Randy,

I know a little how you're feeling and I'll add you to my short prayer list. I lost my dad in '91 and a day doesn't pass that I don't think about him. I still think of things I would like to ask him about or things I would like to do with him--same goes for my mom. I always encourage those who still have their dads (or moms) to spend as much time with them as you can 'cause you never know when their time will come. I also have a higher respect for the old timers too--in fact my best friends on this earth are mostly over 60 years old....

Yes, we all tend to think our parents will live forever. I think we avoid any thoughts to the contrary. I had a terrible time accepting my dad's passing. Twenty years later I still miss him badly but realize it doesn't change anything. I gained a lot of comfort from deciding that I'm my dad's legacy. I'm here to represent him in his absence. The same can be said for you. Be the person your father taught you to be. He still lives thru you.

Randy, sorry for your loss. I know how you feel, I lost my dad after 26 months of cancer back in 91 at the age of 80. He was still milking his cows when he was diagnosed with it.Im sure all farmers gather in Heaven and talk shop like we do here. He is in the Lords hands and now and we can be thankful for that.God Bless you and your family as you go through this period of mourning. May the Lord give you strength Lester

Randy, my deepest sympathy is with you and your family. Your last sentence is so true. You know your loved one is safe with the lord now, but that doesn't make the deep emptyness and the feeling of sorrow go away. When my mother was dying of cancer I actually prayed for god to take her to end her suffering, but when she did go it still hit harder than I expected. Take care. Jim

A guy is just never prepared for the loss of a loved one. Lost my dad many years ago, then later my mom and sis about 17 days apart. Thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Prayers go out to your family. I lost my Dad in 1972, when I was 10. Still miss him very much and there isn't a day goes by where I don't think of him.

Sorry to hear that Randy, lost my dad ten years ago and it still hurts at times. Just be the man he taught you to be and make him proud. Like the others have said, he is in a better place.

no matter how long it is in coming, you are just aren't ready for it when the time comes....I lost my Daddy 10 years ago last Wednesday. Time won't make the hurt go away, but it does make it easier to deal with. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep his memories in your heart and his advice in your head and he will live on....God Bless.
