I have seen these intercoms in the past that can be used if the shop gets it"s power from the house. A push to call device that is two-way. Anyone know where I might be able to find one?
Thanks, Richard

A lot of wireless telephones (I have a panasonic) have an intercom feature exactly like you want.

You could also get a pair of FRS radios and do the same thing..... .

Got the little radios...got tired of putting batteries in them. They are excellent when we're in a large store and she goes one way and I go the other..... .if we remember to bring them.

No one has mentioned the fact that the intercoms that plug into the house wires also transmit to any other house on the same high voltage line transformer. Few years ago I hooked up a set of the el cheapo type that some one gave me and it happened that they were on the same frequency as the nieghbor about 1000 ft across the way. I was amazed at the cussing and yelling he and his spouse were doing on it. I got rid of them and got a set of the Radio Shack intercoms that work through the telephone line. I have an extension of the house phone in the shop, both in the office and the work floor area and therefore the line extends the 500' to connect them. My wife usually answers the phone and then buzzes me if I need to answer the phone. I also have caller ID and moniter the phone when I am expecting a call. I can just pick it up because she knows if it doesn't ring but 2 times I answered it. My wife does too many good things for me to make her come hunt me when ever she needs me. She has an intercom monitor in her sewing room, and one in the hall, and I have one in the shop office and on the wall shelf under the shop floor phone. I love the convenience of buzzing her if I need something and not having to walk to the house in the rain or cold to just talk for a minute or if I am going to leave the premises. Think about it fellows! Would you tell your wives all the things you say about them to their faces and still expect them to be good to you ?? My first wife broke me, but my second wife has made me! We celebrated 39 years together in October.

I'll second that wife thing. I have no problem with her using the intercom. She pretty much does it when it's something important, like dinner. I rarely get a useless call. It's also nice to ring her up and not have to walk back to the house.

"Hey....you want me to bring you a Michalob?" What's wrong with that?

Lowes has them. I got the Westinghouse brand a couple of years ago. It works great; the shop is about 125 feet from the house and its power is tapped off the house meter.

I recommend you spring for a set with at least three channels. I (being a cheapskate) went for the two channel version; when I got it home I found that one channel was unusable. (Interference from who knows what.) Fortunately the other channel works, but I'd really be scratching my head if I had interference on both channels.

We have one of those Newtone intercoms in most every room in the house. Stopped working one day and for some reason no matter how many times I am told it needs to be fixed it stays broke. I dont know why but it just stays broke. The one in the one bathroom is two steps away from the pot. When it was in working order----- -- I am sure you get the picture. Yes honey I will see it it can be fixed soon. Yes honey we could really make good use of it. Yes honey it would be easyer to call me to supper.

I told my wife about these comments and she got a good laugh. She is definitly a gopher! She goes fer me here, there, everywhere. I have a 25 pr. phone cable going out to the shop and it has been unhooked for years and I am not real fond of the phones in the house. Seems like people know when I take naps. Thanks,Richard

PS. She said she would head for Radio shack tomorrow.....

Worst thing a man could do to himself you will never get a thing done bad enough with a phone in the shop all you do is spend time running to the phone and waisting time yacken one of the first things we did was to pull the phone out of the shop once the big trucks were gone that way i could spend time working rather then running to the phone and if ya wanted to talk to me then they had to come and see me .

I'm agin 'em. It's bad enough when she can be bothered to bundle up and come all the way (20 feet...) out to the shop. If all she hadda do was push a button, I'd never get any peace.

Just curious all talk against the wives are these the same ladies that in some of you fellows cases bring home pay check and have the insurance policy that covers you also. You might not be able to play with your tractors and stuff if not for them. Just something some of you might want to consider before always bad mouthing the ladies.

You are so right! Had a pair. Doesnt take long to "accidentally" drop a sledge on it. You will be bothered for the slightest little thing, even the in-laws calling to see what you are up to and if you can go help them out.

No I'm back to having a place of peace on earth.

Got one in the barn...one in the loft....one in the kitchen...one in the basement. Wife uses it all the time to reach me wherever I am. They work great. Only downside is when you talk on one, they all talk, so..if you want a private conversation in the barn and someone is in the basement...they'll hear it.

Picked them up in garage sales..couple of bucks.

Oh...sometimes a little static but you just change the channel. Took a while to teach the wife not to lean over and yell into it. You just stay upright and talk normal.

I have a set that came from Radio-Shack, FM wireless intercom. One is in the house, the other in the shop. The only common electrical connection is the main breaker on the meter pole. The intercoms work very well.

Probably best to declare that it would be impossible for such an intercom without great expense, trenching, interference, lots of work, ect. Or, I guess you could go on to Radio Shack and plug in one in the shop and one for the Ms. and be done with it for about 40 bucks.
