Overhead crane questions

I bought a 32ft. 10 ton overhead crane to put in my shed. All I got was the beam with 2 end trucks. Now all I need to know is how big of beams I need for my 20ft. runway and how big the uprights need to be. Thanks for the help.

Charles, you hit the nail on the head. Actually, I didn't buy it, my dad did, but I'm gonna be the one putting it up. You'll never guess where we got it from. It came from the scrap yard. If we didn't buy it, they were gonna cut it up in 3ft. pieces. They had 2 25 ton cranes they were cutting up for scrap when we picked up the 10 ton.
It doesn't have a hoist or the motors to move it, but we plan on making it chain drive. We did talk with a guy who said he could get the info. on how big the beams need to be, but I thought maybe someone here could help me out. We will probably never pickup up anything 10 tons but you never know. I wish I had it all set up when I pulled the engine from our 7720 combine, sure would've been alot easier.

The scrap yerd had them because of liability issues, I'll bet, where they came from.

Where I work, several overhead cranes have been replaced over the years. Nothing wrong with them, the system was expanded and modified (its an airline's aircraft maintenance hangar) and the company stored the old hoists, trolleys, etc. The company doing the work refused to reuse any of the equipment, even perfectly good working air powered chain hoists, due to liability, and for liability reasons, my company won't sell the unused equipment either, so it just sits.

Let me get this right. You bought a single 32 ft rail (the bridge) with the end trolleys and you need two rails, 20 ft long for the end trolleys to run on. Thus the whole thing will cover a 20 x 32 ft area. You will need four posts to support the two rails. This is one heaviy affair!!!!! !!

You need to talk with a bridge/overhead crane engineer to be sure of getting something that is heavy enough to be safe.

Shoot, all I want is a roll around portable gantry crane about 12 or 15 ft wide and 10 to 14 ft high, that will lift a couple of tons.
