I have a chance to buy a 2002 F150 Lariat at a reasonable price. It has the 5.4 L engine and I am wondering what I can expect for mileage on the highway. I'm driving a 4 cyl Toyota pickup now, so I expect my fuel bill to go up. I don't know if there were rear end ratio options or not, but this one has the factory towing package. The tach shows about 2000 rpm at 70 mph. any input is appreciated.

EPA site shows it at 15/19 for the non-supercharged model or 12/16 with the supercharger. The EPA site come in handy, their figures seem to be pretty close to reality. It's at: Link

I have two of them . The one in my 2000 F-150 gets 13-15 around town and the best I have gotten was 19 on a long trip. Two wheel drive automatic. Run it without a load most of the time. Got 10-11 MPG when towing my equipment trailer so I don't check anymore when I am trailering! The other one is in an E-250 service Van also two whell drive automatic, that is loaded with tools and parts. It gets around 13 in town and 16 hi-way.
Not terrible mileage considering how hard that little engine works to put out that much power.
Been real pleased with them both so far.

Hi My 02 5.4 4x4 gets between 17 and 18 almost consistantly. Towing a 24 foot travel trailer it drops to 10 or 11 Norv

14-15 MPG. Uphill, downhill or with or without a tail wind.

2000 RPMs @ 70 MPH would be the 3.55 rear end or mine is mis-built. Driving back and forth to work mostly highway I get around 16 to 18 MPG but that's with a 4.6 I was to worried about gas mileage to get the 5.4. If I remember there were 3 ratios in 01, a 3.30, 3.55 and a 3.9

My dad has a 2003 F-150 super cab, short box, 2wd. It has the 5.4, automatic, and 3:55 rearend gears. On 2 lane black top at 58 mph he gets 16.7 mpg, on a good day, with the tail gate down! He is 74 yrs old so its not like he hot rods it. He also bought it new and the dealer does all the main.
