Is there an experienced mechanic out there?? I am attempting to replace the brake shoes on my 1959 model 871. The drum & springs are all removed but I can't get the large diameter pinsremoved that goe through the hole in the Shoe The manual says to simply remove the clip and remove the Pin. I guess rusted in. Appears the pin goes through a bushing. Have been soaking in WD40 and every night I give them a few whacks with a small sledge hammer then spray some more WD40. No progress after 5 sessions. Is there a trick?? If i try heat, where do I apply it and how much??

First off get some ZEP penatrating oil and throw the wd 40 in the trash can or next best P/B Blasters, then thump on it a littel if all eles failes GET THE TOURCH OUT and heat and beat, had the same problem on the same tractor a while back ,one come out without to much trouble the other had to heat a couple times. Use never seeze when going back to gether the next time some one will thank you.

Yes! finally someone who knows about WD40. This is not a penetrating oil. Nowhere on the container can you find the word 'oil'. The chemicals in WD40 evaporate and leave a sticky residue. One of our maint. men used WD40 on all the outside locks, 3mos. later they all had to be cut off, because the oil and graphite had been washed out and they froze. WD40 has it's uses though;it will work as starter fluid in a pinch.
