Just got a propane heater for the shop. How much ventilation do I need to avoid asphyxiation? Thanks.

Keep a canary in the building with you while using the propane heater. If the bird falls to the ground suddenly, get out quick!

How air tight is your shop. If its like most you will probably be ok the way it is.
Good thing to have if in doubt is a co monitor, put it 5ft away from the heater and see what it does

What kind of propane heater is it? I have a radiant, overhead type that doesn't require much in the way of venting. Some forced-air "torpedo" types build up the CO and fumes pretty fast. There should be some guidance offered in the manual that came with the heater. HTH Ben
