I used to grind my own coffee all the time and use one of those stovetop perk things which made great coffee. I like to use that thing on my fireplace. One thing I discovered is instead of using the regular filters, use one of those metal filters that you can buy for a few bucks, you have to wash it out every time you use it, but it lets the oils from the bean through and makes a much better pot of coffee.

We have very hard water with lots of iron and a dash of arsenic. Coffee maker gets softened water that's been subsequently run through a reverse osmosis filter.

Well I like the Bunn coffee but then I discovered a coffee press. WOW what great coffee!

Grind fresh beans, add boiling water, steep 5min, press, wait 5min, then pour the best cup of java you'll ever have.

No bitterness what so ever and a smooth taste.

We like MJB Gold 3lb tin, then grind 2 cups of Columbian beans, then grind 1cup of Vanilla beans, mix in the 3lb tin. This mix could be used in any coffee maker as the grind can be course or fine ground via the adjustment on the grinder.

This makes buying whole beans alittle cheaper since I drink about 6 pots a day.

That's what we use at the office. It's about the same size as a Mr.Coffee and it does make it fast.
and Hi Bro.

The main advantage of the Bunn is that it's fast. But they take up a lot of space and they're always on. Unless you go through a LOT of coffee, your Mr. Coffee will do you just fine.

BTW, Mr. Coffee will live a lot longer if you run some CLR through him every month or two. (You'll find CLR at the hardware store with cleaning suppliers.)

The Bunn coffee makers I've seen perk the coffee, the Mr. Coffee I have is automatic drip. Look in the cup after drinking brewed coffee vs. perked coffee. The residue in the cup from the perking are some of the oils and volatile fatty acids in the bean, thats what makes perked coffee taste so much better. With that said, I use the Mr. Coffee b/c it has a setting where I can make sure that I have coffee ready when I get up in the morning since no way I could ever make it alive to the shower if I had to measure and pour water in the morning, lol.

One of only 3-4 true luxuries I allow myself on a regular basis are 1. Millstone coffee (nothing like grinding the beans fresh myself, 2. Good unflavored chewing tobacco, 3. Heat and air on a tractor, 4. used to be 'good' film but since I went digital thats kind of out the door....

Just got our first snow in South Jersey last night. About one inch of it. Used to repair Bunns in a lot of Diners and Hospitals Etc. Set the brew temp at 193 degree temp cause that is where you get the most from your grind. With a filter in, a self fill unit you set the timer so the water just comes to the top of the letters. This is about one and a half inches below the handle band. You can find used Bunns at the flea marked every so often. I have a stand alone in the neighbors shop and also have a self fill in my basment. Great units and easy to fix if you know. Look on the Franklin Machine Products web site for most parts. They are a very big parts house for com. kitchen stuff.

From the office of the my War Dept. she said that the bunnwas the best coffe maker that one could owen and it does not matter what brand coffee ya put thru it , the big thing is the water since we put a water filter on the drinking water then coffee has gotten a lot better . After fifteen years our old bunn died with only one fixen in that fifteen year because of our water that ate it out now we have a Mr. Coffee only because we did not have the 100 bucks to replace it with another bunn and she plum HATES the Mr. Coffee.

If you still have your old Bunn coffe maker, call the number Leland posted below, Bunn used to have a warranty that, was maybe lifetime against the tank rusting out, not 100% sure. They might also have some remans they will trade ya cheap. don't hurt to call and ask.

dieselade having built many thousand bunnomatics you can dump any old coffee you want into one , bunn did not use the fancy store brands they used what ever his brother next door sells to resturants and nursing homes and such . and they only thing you need to remember with most bunns you need to keep them full of water since most models store enough hot water for 1 pot at all times but if you have any questions call 217 529 6601 this is the main factory here in town

Good coffee is primarily a function of good beans and freshness.

Primary advantage of a Bunn over the others is speed.

Other tips for really good coffee: CLEANLINESS, good water, proper brewing temperature. Overheating the brewing water makes bitter coffee.

I've had a bunn for years..... I use Folgers classic. Fawteen is right..... the real advantage to a bunn is is keeps the water hot and makes a pot of coffee in a couple of minutes..... very fast....

Back when the yuppie sales guys came in town they just had to have their designer $3.50 cup of coffee....frap'ah's or something..... .I went to starbucks with them one day and asked for a cup of Folgers..... ...The staff immediatly started yelling "He just said the F word"..... .."He just said the F word"..... .

I guess I just don't get it..... .to me it just don't get any better than Folgers in the cup.....and I can almost afford it!
