Do they make a blade that will cut 3/16 plate steel that will fit a electric saw? I am talking about a hand held saw. I need to cut some steel plate and I don't have a plasma cutter. We use these saws to cut tin by turning the blade around backwards, works good just noisy. Of course that wouldn't work for steel plate. Thanks

My dad gave me a Black & Decker carbide tipped 7 1/4 inch saw blade a few years back. A relatively fine-toothed (40 teeth maybe) all around carpentry blade.

I cut through two two-inch sections of the steel frame of my Work-Mate saw bench(maybe 14 ga steel) and didn't even notice. I also cut through two 1/2 inch steel bars when cutting an old maple 5 x 4 shop bench top in half to make two benchs - again I did not even notice I was cutting steel, and the blade seems as sharp as new.

I've been thinking about just using it on steel when needed -seems to do the trick!

When I have cut steel on purpose I use the $2 - $3 abrasive blades you can pick up any where. I am thinking about a carbide tipped blade for metal though. I'm sure it is faster, cleaner and won't stink up the garage.

I bought two from Amazon that fit my worm drive. $30 including shipping.
I love them.

Willy: Freud makes a metal cutting blade that will fit a 7 1/4" circular saw. I've used it before and IMO it will cut a piece of steel like a hot knife thru butter. good luck

Here is a link to their bigger saw rated at 1/2 " steel.

There is a saw that will cut steel like you are talking about. Has carbide teeth. Called a Steel Max. It was a bit pricey but it did what no other tool I have seen could do. I always thought about buying just sa blade and trying it in a saw. The steelmax saw runs slower than a standard circular saw so never tried the experiment. I have seen ads for a Sears saw that advertises the same cutting. It has two blades that rotate in oposite directions. Never have seen one operate though.

I have one of the two-bladed saws from Sears. It won't work for you. I burned one out just cutting a thin aluminum plate about three foot across. I returned it and have a new one in the box that I'm afraid to use. It appears to be nothing more than a little hand-grinder motor with a fancy cutting head with $50 dollar blades.

Have access to a sawzall? A tapered wood blade in a sawzall works great. I'd recommend Lenox blades. Run the saw about half speed, and let the saw do the work. Don't overheat the blade and you'll be fine.

I just looked at one the other day that will cut up to 1/2 plate all day long. I'd love to have it but it's a tad over $600 so it's a bit out of my range for no more than I'd use it. As thick as your plate is you ought to be able to do it with a torch with no problem. If you want a straight line clamp a piece of angle iron down along the cut line to use as a guide and use a small tip, say a 0 or 00 to keep the heat input down. Keep the torch head parallel to the line of cut so the edges of the kerf are at 90% to the face, but angle the top back a little toward the beginning of the cut to make the actual depth of cut a little more than 3/16. Doing it this way you ought to be able to cut along fast enough to prevent warping it and get just as clean a cut as you would with a plasma. Good luck.

I use a metal abresive blade on my circler saw all the time. I have cut steel up to 1/4 inch thick with that set up, its slow but does the job. Of course depending on how much you have to cut it may take more then one blade. There sort of like 7-1/4 inch chop saw blades. Last I checked wal-mart has them for around $3 each. I always keep one or 2 around in my shop.
