I am trying to decide between an Airens and a (MTD) Yard man. The Airens is 8hp 24" the Yardman is 26" 8hp. The airens is about $50 more which is not a big deal, I was just wondering which one is the better machine. From looking at them side by side it looks like the Airens is better made. Which one do you guys like best? Thanks Joe

Ariens. I have a 30 year old one, it used to do 7-8 driveways each time for 12 years. Our average snowfall is 110" a year. One year, 1998 it did the main road for 600' to where the town plow started.

I find the Tecumsech (sp) engine to be more reliable than B/Stratton. Also believe fresh gas and draining off season will prevent many problems.

My MTD seems to be a good machine to me, used it for 3 years now and Cuts threw the snow like butter. I wish It had a Brigs & Strat, over the Tecumche engine, but its strong....anything beats the snow shovel.

Forget the mtd/yardman unless they are paying you to take it. Take a look at the Toro 8hp with the fingertip steering control & joystick. It is amazingly agile & powerful, and the best thing I did was to get rid of my tractor blower and get this walk behind.

If there's only a $50 price difference buy as many Ariens as you can afford. MTD stuff is pretty cheesy overall. I can't stand working on them--bad designs, lots of weak parts. Even the homeowner Ariens are lightyears better. Usually much more expensive.
