Anyone had experience with the poulan pro pole saw that tsc is selling? I am considering one to cut overhanging limbs in my pasture.

I have a Poulan bought from TSC. Works well. Went back and bought the weedeater attachment as well. Nice just to have one engine. I see late last year they had a complete kit that included saw and weedeater together.

I don't have the Poulan, but I bought a Ryobi weed eater with the split shaft and bought the Extend-it saw attachment. I've had it more than a year. I'm sure the professional models work better, but this one cuts anything I can reach with it. I've used it for about 10-12 cutting hours walking around my place cutting those limbs that hit me in the face while bush hogging. It is really nice not to have to dodge those limbs any more. It's also good for cutting brush and vines close to the ground.

I can't imagine ever using one of them around my place enough to justify a professional version.

I have the Stihl telescoping model and am very pleased with it. Bought it just before Husky introduced theirs. I have both Stihl and Husky saws and like the Husky saw better. Have not used one of the Husky pole pruners. My Stihl unit is fine.

just bought the saw you are looking at and love it. it is somewhat "heavy" when reaching out as far as you can. only difference is when i went to my local tsc they were out. sale guy there said he thought lowes had same product also. carried the tsc sale paper over there (about 2 blocks) and bought it for 10% less than tsc price. lowes advertises to beat any competitive price. tsc was 169.99 and lowes was marked 199.99 fro same item. got it for 162 with tax added (8.5% sales tax)

I have a Stihl that is great. If I did it again, I would buy the lightest. Echo is lighter than Stihl.

I looked at the Echo models, was going to buy one, a dealer talked me into a Sthil. It works OK, but I'll never buy another Sthil product. They protect their dealers to an extreme. You cannot order any parts online anywhere. If they catch a dealer selling online, they pull his dealership. You cannot get parts break downs of the unit, dealer won't give them to you, you are stuck dealing with the idiots at the dealership who order the wrong parts, and leave you waiting for days or weeks when you need it out working. Sorry for the Rant, wished I'd bought the Echo, the Sthil saw worked OK, its the dealer/parts issue that gets me.

One thing you do need is height. No matter how high it will reach, it isn't enough. Buy all the length you can get. They will quickly tire you out, the weight and all makes it difficult to use, especially if you are working at full extension.

While I can't help you with ordering parts, as Stihl does protect its dealers pretty well. You'll never see a Stihl product for sale in Home Depot, Lowes or Wal-Mart either. On the other hand, every Stihl saw is supposed to be started and run by the dealer before its handed to the customer to make sure it works properly. And every customer is supposed to be shown how to use the saw safely. While it may be inconvenient sometimes, I do like a company that takes an extra step to promote chainsaw and trimmer safety. This is not to say Echo and others don't, but that was my personal experience with Stihl when I worked for a dealership that sold them. Anyway, on to te main reason for this message.

Here is something to help you with at least looking up the parts. It doesn't contain EVERY saw, but it contains a lot. You might want to look into another dealer maybe. While Stihl protects there dealers, they also don't like dealers that don't take care of the customers. Stihl parts are available overnight, and shouldn't take more than a day or 2 for them to get your machine back to you. As for giving you parts breakdowns, see below, but I never had a problem with photocopying a few pages once in awhile for a good customer. You can find the books on Ebay from time to time also.

Hope this helps someone.

Sounds like you have a bad dealer . I have a stihl model HT101 and have never had a problem with it . I have run sthl chainsaws as long as I can remember and have never had a problem with parts or service , if I want to fix somthing myself I can get the parts or my dealer will install the parts in a day or so . I`ve never tried to get my parts online , I try to support my small town dealer because he supports me .

i have had sthill saws for years. one that i bought from my brother 20 yrs ago an 028 and its still going strong. you see when you buy a stihl you dont have to worry about getting parts because they just very seldom break down. so remember you get what you pay for

There is no comparison between and 028-038 Stihl and the new Stihl saws. the reason you have not had breakdowns is becasue you have a real saw, not the cheaper ones made today. Yours is almost all metal, the new ones have a lot plastic in them.

I have no experience with a poulan. I rented a Stihl about a year ago to do the same thing and it worked great. I figured why buy a tool that I'll only need every 3-5 yrs, cost me $50 for a weekend. Was worth every penny.
