OT: Sticky mouse trap with mouse (disposal).

The old "instant death" spring traps didn't catch one so I got some sticky traps. I caught one over night, but they stay alive for a while.

Today we caught another in a sticky. It passed on by the spring traps and the D'Con boxes.

Does anyone have a clever way to bait the sticky traps with poison so they die soon after being caught ?

My sister used those "stick pad" mouse traps for awhile. One day we when were visiting, she was checking the pads and one came up with just a "hand" stuck to it. She spent the next hour or so, wondering/worrying about a 3 legged mouse.....

best mouse traps I use other than the old fashion wood spring ones which I still use. But this homemade unit has never failed to catch them. I empty 5 gal pail with lid removed. drill two small holes near the top edge and run a string through the first hole then run string through empty pop can (horizontally)or whatever then run the string through the hole on the other side and tie off. You now have a can suspended across the bucket and it should spin freely,put some peanut butter on the can and water in the bottom half of bucket. thats it works miracles and can go for little while between dumpings,and its cheap unlike those sticky trap things. great for barns,machine sheds etc, have also used it in the porch when needed.

How do the mice get to the top of the bucket? I doubt they can climb the plastic sides.

I"ve been using the 5 gal bucket trap for a couple of years now.

I have a piece of wood for a ramp that goes up to the rim of the bucket. I use the cardboard tube from a paper towel roll suspended on the wire. I smear peanut butter on the middle of the cardboard tube.

The little buggers go up the ramp, out on the cardboard tube after the peanut butter.

The tube rotates under their weight and they get dunked. After they get tired of traeding water they drown.

I have one of these in my un-heated pole barn (add antifreeze to the water in the winter) and I only check it once a week or so. Usually have three or four ex-mice floating in the bucket.

All I know is this has been working for me since I did it by accident when making a project when the kids were small and left the bucket in the garage and cma eback out next morning and found the dead mice in it. Ususally when Ido them in sheds I put them along the walls and they must come across or if out in the middle of shed lay a stick or a lath up top the bucket. Sorry I forgot that step,it has worked without thou is al I know

Yeah - Dad used the same trick, only instead of the pop can, he spread some grain on top of the water. It LOOKS like a hard surface, but when mister mouse steps on it, he takes an unwanted bath - his LAST bath!

Pair of sharp scissors. Use it again. Passed on to me by a frugal landlord.

Or on the other hand you can remove the adhesive with mineral spirits, and take the critter for a ride to the nearest forest preserve and release it.

The way I finish them off is to wrap them in one of those plastic grocery bags, hit'em with the heel of a tennis shoe and throw'em in the garbage.

That's pretty much what I've been doing.

That little bugger last night just about got loose. He crawled under the water heater and was "hangin' on for dear life".

It would be nice if there was a little bait embeded in the traps which they'd eat and then croak.

I've seen them catch mice. The way that they work is that as the mouse tries to move around, more and more of the mouse gets stuck, gets constricted, and ends up dying of internal bleeding from smashed insides. Just the way it is. Use the old snap guys, or like "old" says, a cat. How big are your mice? Maybe a shotgun? LOL.

First time ever saw one, was crawling around under some lady's desk doing a phone repair. Like everyone else in an office, papers and stuff fall off of desks over time, and I always gather those missing reports, pens, calculators and what not that mysteriously disappeared months earlier and give them back to the user as I'm trying to get to the cable or jack. This time, I crawled out from under the lady's desk with one stuck to the side of my head and hair, another stuck to my forearm, and one stuck to the front of my shirt, and they were all industrial sized, like 8.5"x11". I had no idea what they were until I peeled them off and read "Victor" on them. First I ever saw one, or three. Man them things are sticky.

I use needle nose pliers to pull'em out alive by gripping the nape of the neck. When the cats hear the doorknob turn, its a mad scamble for lunch.

We used to have a house cat and it did earn it's keep catching mice. The problem was it played with them first and had a habit of putting the mouse in one of the wife's shoes. Well, you guessed it, the wife goes to put a shoe on and a mouse jumps out. My ears are still ringing. Caught a mouse in the sticky trap once and threw it out the door until I could get my shoes on. When I finally got out the door, a cat was hopping across the yard on three legs with the trap stuck to it's face and a front paw glued to the trap. Had to go back inside to get the winter coat and leather gloves so I could 'free' the cat. Jim
