Don't want to start some stuff on this board. However I'm very fond of my Homelite saw and not very fond of my Stihl. Homelite saw is about 15 years old. In my judgement the current saws won't touch this one. Anyway,my Homelite has come up with a severe and complete fracture in its handle about where my right hand fits when cutting with saw. Fractured metal is that light alloy(?) which was widely used before plastic took over. Any of you think that JB weld or something of that sort will work to fix it?

Thanks.

HOMELITE has had 3 different oils they have recommended. The old 16:1 has been discontinued and the 32:1 and EXACTMIX 50:1 in the squeeze-up bottle.
Either will work, but you have to be more careful of the exact amount with the higher ratio mix as any error is almost double = Trouble.
Also to avoid having old stale fuel mix, make the smallest amount you will use in less than a month.

The HOMELITE XL 100 series share many of the same parts. I have several 'Dead' ones that I use for parts as should most older dealers. I was not aware of a 130 model. You can contact me here in KS if I can help you out with either parts or repair info. [email protected]

Bonjour

Well, I have to agree. I have a Homelite Super XL-924 (one of the biggest they made) and it's been running strong since I paid $10 for it at a yard sale. I got a Stihl 032av at the same sale, same price, but it's been more trouble than an AR-15 to keep running. New parts here, new parts there. More more refined than the XL-924--just a headache. Of course, I can still get parts for the Stihl. No such luck on the old Homelite.

I'm 99% sure the handle is made out of pot metal, (zinc alloy casting). Along with all the other good suggestions, you can try tightly wrapping it with raw hide. Then wet the 'hide. It'll shrink up tighter than a rust welded exhaust manifold bolt.

Check with repair shops for dead saws for parts. A friend that used to have a repair shop found a used frame in another shop for my 360 homelite and it only costed $5. There should be some junked out saws around somplace with the right part left for you.

Hi colaws, I would drill the handle for small 3/16" bolts then use the JB Weld in the crack then bolt tight. Recess the bolts below handle surface.

If the handle is to badly broken then make a new one out of oak or aluminum.

Sounds like a tough spot to fix. Are you talking about the handle with the trigger or the top handle?

If it's the top handle, you might be able to fabricate a new one out of some thin-wall tubing or something.

If it's the 'trigger guard', best I can come up with would be to drill and tap holes above and below the break and screw a plate of some sort over it. You might could use some epoxy to reshape the handle and cover any sharp edges.

You might try a lawnmower repair shop, that was
a very popular saw. I believe that model is still
in production. I had the blue super xl for years
replaced it with a new one 10 years later and the
only things changed were semi-auto oiler and the
ignition to electronic. Many part saws should be around at the dealers.
