OT: head gasket blown??

I have a 95 suzuki sidekick, the other week the radiater cracked and it got hot, just barely into the red b4 shutoff. Replaced radiater (new) but now is losing water. No water in oil. Sometimes one cylinder does not run on startup but clears up after a few minutes. Have not done compression check. Does this stuff like Bars Leaks work?? Don't want to change head gasket. Sorry for length. Thanks in advance.

Got an 87 dodge ram 50 with the similar problem (mysteriously losing coolant)but it has a burnt valve on #4 cyl? figured the exhaust valve seat went finally?? I'm not going to fix that engine as i got "lucky" enough to get ahold of another truck with a good 2.0 mitsubishi engine but the tranny sounds like it is getting ready to explode and fly to the moon????

Do the compression test. If two cylinders side by side are low is probably blown.

A compression test won't always find the problem. One of the kids had a mid 80's Chrysler with the mitsu four-banger in it. Cracked the head inside one of the exhaust passages. Sucked water from the cooling system like mad, no water in oil, no indications of problems from compression check.

Finally found it when I got frustrated enough to pull the exhaust manifold off. Could see water in the exhaust passage. Cost me a new head & a gasket set to fix.
