do you guys think I need a double flare or would I be alright with a single flare for tiny brake lines on a car?

You can buy either set (ISO or SAE) for less than $17.00 each.

Single flare works but if you have a wreck your in big trouble. As the other guy says its law to have double. Shoot for what brake line cost I'd just replace it. Last 6 foot piece I got cost less then $10

well I have a Jap car 1987 Nissan 300zx so Im guessing all the lines are metric, seeing how everything else on the car is.

Besides the "double flare", there is the "bubble flare" on newer and "metric" cars. (NO KIDDING) Be sure of what you have, and need before buying tools.

I would think, for a one-time deal, buying a premade line would be a LOT less $$$$.

Ran into the same problem on sons 92 Cavilier, got new fittings a head of time and started to take it apart, wrong type fittings, it had the bubble fittings, they say all car and trucks are going to this type, its coming from Europe, priced a flaring tool for this and they said 70 bucks, for all the more I would use it I didn"t buy it, took lines to garage and they did flaring for 10.00 bucks

yep, factory flares are the best, just coil the line if you have to make it fit. My Toyota line rusted right behind the gas tank and I had to splice into old line. Bought a $10 line and rented the flare kit for a few bucks. Was back on the road with only a half day of wrestling to get to the old line and pull it down to have room to work.
This Japanese truck used a metric version of double flare. My old VW stuff had the bubble flare that takes yet another tool.
