EGT questions, installing a guage

I got a AutoMeter EGT guage for my cummins. I already have a 4 inch straight exhaust from turbo flange back, no muffler at all. The manual says to install 1-2 inches from turbo exhaust.
The way it looks, I am going to have to take the exhaust system back off and weld the supplied bushing on the exhaust pipe and install it there. How have you guys installed them? how far down the exhaust?? Would 3-4 inches down where the pipe goes to 4" make the reading that far off from 1-2 from turbo? The method with the big hose clamp doesn't look like anything other than a rig to me, I want it there for the duration of the truck life. Also, what EGT will I see with the Edge EZ as normal. I was worried about the chip initially because I was seeing big fluctuation in water temp and I figured that if the water temp was fluctuation that much, the pistons and combustion chambers had to be getting MUCH MUCH hotter to raise the water temp. ((I posted a question under the name buzzsaw because I couldn't remember my password for my reserved name)).

THANKS

mount the probe preturbo and in the back 3 of manifold, no egt probs with ezm especially if you are auto impaired... but put it pre turbo in manifold for sure just drill and tap with an 11/32 drill and a 1/8th tap use magnet and grease to get out shavings

Definitely mount it pre-turbo.

I did lots of research on this very subject when I installed the EGT probe in my Dodge Cummins. Drill and tap the manifold. It's cast iron, so it's real easy job.

You might poke around on some Dodge Cummins specific sites. They have lots of good info on them.
