O.T. Printer help ???

Both my computers are old and use a parallel port printer connection. They no longer make a printer for this set up (I'm told ) Is there a device to permit using a new usb port (?) printer with my antique computers ?? Thanks in advance

Now pay close attention.... A usb card will work only on computer with a PCI slot and win-95b and above operating system.Earlier versions of win-95 "DID NOT" have usb support!!! usb cards can be had at wallyworld for about $25....

They still make them with parallel connections. Staples had a couple HP ones last night when I was there. Color inkjet printers. They were less that $100.

I can't recall the model #s. I was more interested in getting one of the all in one scanner, copier, fax, printers, so didn't really pay close attention to them. But I know I saw the parallel port connections. They also had the USB ports. Printer I bought 2 years ago has both connections, and you can use either one, depending on your computer and preference.

You need to have a little Dilbert fun with the teenager at the computer store that told you that. Ask him if he has any thrust capacitors for the impulse generator on your Essex Tri-Directional.

As others have pointed out, you can add a USB port to your old computer if you want a USB printer, and you can use a USB to parallel adapter to hook a USB port on a new notebook computer to your old parallel printer. The problem usually turns out to be that a new printer is cheaper than messing with the old one.

Thats why I need the new printer with built in scanner. I have what I believe is a primitive ignition module from an Essex Tri Directional, and I wanted to post a pic to confirm its purpose. I bought it from a man who had worked at Emerson - Brantingham's Grundy Center Branch house, It was ordered by mistake, and was non retunable, so he took it home. I sensed its rarity, as well as the mans eagerness to sell and snatched it up for a song. It is said to fit only models with the Hawker-Sidley-Lister-Petter multifuel engine and induced draft carb. As soon as I get the Scanner- Printer I'll post the Picture.. Dale

Look for a Hewlett Packard 5550 or a 5650 ink jet. They have both usb and parallel port connections.

How old? I think you can get USB cards for Win95, and I know for certain you can get them for Win98. A USB 1.0 oughta be sufficient for your printer, and available for about 5 bucks, since USB 1.0 is obsolete and replaced by USB 2.0 now.

Depending how old the computers are, you might be able to add a USB card into one of the card slots. This will give you several USB ports. They're not expensive and easy to install.
