Since I readily admit complete ignorance about electricity I have a question -
Yesterday I stripped down a (non-working) treadmill to salvage the 2hp 130v dc motor (the motor spins hooked up to a 12v battery).
I found a transformer inside with a lot of numbers on the label.
Do these numbers tell me what the transformer will do ?
Here's what it says :
130993, 719C7, E1A-17-9736, 327 F6 Mexico.
I know what Mexico means but the rest is a mystery.
I'm hoping that the transformer will change 110v AC to 130v DC but that's probably too much to ask for !
I'm planning to use the motor for a lathe, mill or drill press without having to incure the expense of a VFD.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanx.

First the numbers do not mean anything to me. Maybe part numbers etc. Second that is probably not a transformer as transformers only convert AC to AC either up or down in voltage. It is probably a DC controller that rectifies the AC to DC and provides a means of varying the DC voltage to vary the speed of the motor as it was used on a treadmill. Yes it will work fine for your equipment if you can connect it back and the controller is ok. Why was the unit scrapped? Maybe the controller is bad or just a broken wire or defective control?

Ah-ha. So that's where I can get a DC motor and controller for little or nothing. I've been looking in Grainger cat at 90 volt dc gear motors, but the controllers are pricey. I have a Harbor Freight AC/DC controller which would work with a Grainger AC/DC gearmotor, but the motors are right angle drive. I need to run between 1 and 10 rpm for a project.
