Just announced this week that there is going to be a new O'Rielly parts store going up locally (Salem, IL). Are these just another Auto Zone? Have you had good or bad luck with them? We have a couple of good parts stores around here (NAPA & one called Salem Auto). Hate to see another one come along just to take the easy sales.

The story I got about O'reillys and advanced auto parts is that a couple had a nasty divorce and she got 1/2 of his stores so every where a O'reillys go's a advanced shows up . But O'reillys bought out the chain of pronto stores That I used to deliver parts for they have good service .

It used to be that I had to e-mail HOOVER VACCUUM CLEANERS to ask for O'Reilly's telephone number in ST. LOUIS, mo. Now, I just go "O'REILLY.com" Just google HOOVERS, the vaccuum cleaner bunch, then you will be directed to O'REILLY's. Hope this helps, somehow.

I like O'Reilly's.
Since I make routine migratory trips from PA to Fl each year, I can count on the O'Reilly stores along the way to cover my old 1980 E-150 from the dreaded thought of having to call the JerDan to take the old fella to the bone yard.

So far, O'Reilly has come thru with a replacement engine for a failure of one of their re-man engines from TDK, who by the way, even paid me to make the change out under warranty.

O'Reilly has made good on any part that failed under their "lifetime warranty" parts, even when the parts were from leading manufactures.

O'Reilly even donated a case of Marvel Mystery Oil to our local tractor club here in PA.

So, I've learned this... if you are a traveler stick with a parts outfit that will be there for you all along your route. Don't depend on your local NAPA store when YOU are beyond an arm's reach from your hometown.

Besides, GREEN, O'Reilly's Company Color, is my favorite color. oUR LOCAL NAPA store has no Company color, but NAPA's is BLUE.

Hope this helps, some how.

Twenty years ago when we lived in Springfield, MO, O'Rielly's was THE place to go. That was back when it was a locally owned company. I believe that they have since sold out and is now a franchise company. We have one in town here in SE Ks, and they do OK in a pinch late at night or Sunday when the real parts store is closed. I usually look up what I want on their website and then call the store to be sure they really have it in stock. That way I have part number in hand from the website and can argue with the parts person that they really do carry this part because the 'puter said it was there. Their same reasoning why they DON'T have the part.

DRL, I know that O'Reillys has more than 1200 stores and not one is a franchise. They are publicly owned company traded on NASDAQ and their current CEO is David O'Reilly.
Admittedly sometimes you don't get the service you want but thats anywhere not just O'Reilly's. That is usually indicative of the area where you live as thats where their help comes from. Its the same here.
Here, I know when their computer doesn't show stock they always do a phsyical check..

Well, I stand corrected. The change was not toward a franchise, but went from private to public held company. I suppose that it depends on how close you are to the main warehouse. Again, when I was in Spfld., if the store didn't have it, they would check with the warehouse, and if they had it, a person could run over there and pick it up. I agree that you will get good and bad service from just about anywhere, but I fail to see what having A/C has anything to do with what type of wheel cylinder my vehicle needs. I will agree that O'Rielly's is head and shoulders above many of the national brand parts stores.

Just another corporate mess. Mcdonalds type integration into auto parts. If you have a good NAPA with a machine shop affiliation you have a national treasure!!

I needed a set of points for my magneto a while back and autozone and advance both said "what is a magneto". Oreily didn't know either but at least he called the main office to find out if they could get them. Went to the local car quest and they had them in stock!

The other day I went into the local Oreily's for spark plugs for my chevette and he asked me if it was a gas or diesel.

Here in S. Central Missouri any town of more than 4000 will have an O'Reillys. They are based in the mid-west. They are a cut above Auto Zone who seems to cater to the trinket crowd.
I have had great success with them. As far as their help goes if you have dummies in your area that’s what you'll get other then one or two guys. But here the help at JD isn't any better even though some of them have been there for years. You do get better conversation at JD though.
Here in town O'Reilly also has a machine shop in their store where they rework heads, build hydraulic hose and what not. They also have a large machine shop an hours drive away that supports all their stores.
Their prices will be slightly higher than Auto Zone but they will have a better well stocked line.

We have an O'Reilly's here. They do not pay the help good enough to keep the knowledgeable people, and some of there parts are of inferior quality. I tried them a few times when they first opened, and then I went back to N.A.P.A.

I have had good luck at carquest and O'Reillys and they do carry better quality parts than most along with good prices too.

O"Rielly auto parts store not far from me and they have the same kind of computer dummys as auto zone and NAPA. computer dummys is to mean that if something is not in their computer reference, then it does not exist. heck, i have neckties older than most of the sales personell in them stores. one one "real" auto parts store left in my town (and it was the first one) now and that old man is going to retire soon. it will be a great loss when that is gone.

While a chain like Advance or Autozone, they seem to hire better quality, knowledgeable folks (judging from the two or three I've been in around here) and they seem to carry a better quality line of parts.

I've never been to an O'Reilly store but have had BAD experiences with Auto Zone. Good experience with NAPA and Car Quest.
