OT - 93 Chevy 3/4 Automatic Transmission

I need a little help... Exwife took the cummins so I had to go out and buy something for pullin a trailer. Bought a 93 Chev 3/4 ton automatic 100k miles for $1500.

Now I am experiencing tranny problems and don"t want to throw a ton of dough into it. When pulling and it is working a little so you give it a little gas it will not shift into 3rd. It will be like it is in neutral. Work the pedal a little and it will go in 3rd. Reverse works fine, and doesn"t appear to be slipping.

The fluid was a little dark, changed it and the filter. Still experiencing the same problem. I think it is an electrical problem and I believe it is a pressure switch for 2 and 3rd gear? Sound right? If so any ideas of location? Or is it the bands?

I have a 4L80 in a 94 --1/2 ton. Just had it rebuilt for $1500 plus tax with everything done heavy duty. You can sure tell the difference in the way it shifts with heavy duty disc and everything. I pull a trailer with about 8000 lbs....deadeye

We need to know which trans you have.700 or a 4L80.The easiest way to tell is to see if you have a detent(kick-down) cable on the driver's side of the throttle-body.It would be below the throttle cable.~brad

Save yourself a headache, take it to chevy and for about 40 they will run a diagnostic test on it. May be the best 40 you spent. Could be as simple as a chip in the computer. My 93 GMC was acting weird. They replaced a chip in it.

I will probably take it to the Chevy Dealer. Not real pleased with them but will give it a shot. Can"t immagine that they would do something for $40.
