Who has a easy to understand phone systyme. something like 10 dollars a month to have it work and 5 cents a minuite for the time you actually use. The only other thing to be charged for would be the initial cost of buying the phone. That is what I want.

Never happen. My Cingular Wireless is $30/month for 300 minutes. Plus taxes, fees, charges, surcharges, which adds another $9. Comes out to 13.3¢ a minute, if I use all 300 minutes. More if I don't use 'em. And more if I go over. Traveling from North Dakota down thru Nebraska, Wyoming, Hwy 80 toward the west coast is roaming. Nevada is not. I can dial *646# to get current total minutes used.

I have a talktracker phone that I have to put at least 15.00 on every 60 days. I don`t use much but it works for me. The more money I put on the more free minits I get. However if you are out of your area then there are romeing charges.

5 cents a minute does not exist, as noted below. Similar to Tracphone is Simple Freedom, also sold at Walmart. Something like 80 minutes for $20--0.25 a minute in area, 0.50/minute out of area. no contract. Good enough for essential calls, too expensive to babble on.

(Cell)phone, and NO NONSENSE in the same sentence, you GOTTA be kidding!

I got the kid a TracPhone a while back.

I guess if you use it only for emergencies, and make very few calls, it's OK. They seem to cheat a bit on the minutes (at least rounding a second over a minute into the next full minute), so the card will get used up quickly, if you make any amount of calls at all!

Last winter, I had vehicle trouble on the road, and had not grabbed my cell phone. I had a little kid with me, and it was COLD! Finally, a guy stopped, going the opposite way, and he was in a hurry. He dug out a Tracphone from under the seat, sealed up in a Ziploc bag, put the battery in it, and fired it up, and let me use it to call for help. Sure did the job, so I think getting one with a 1-year airtime card, and carrying it for emergencies is a GREAT idea.

It burns up the airtime minutes like heck, if you use it very much at all, though.

Have had a Tracphone for 3-4 years now. The first few years it was a years service and 150 min + 200 bonus min for $98 per year. This year it was one year service and 150 min + 150 min bonus for$89. I use it for an on the road and emergency phone only so use very few min. The unused min from one year rolls over to the next year,so are not lost. I am up to over 700 unused min,so got to turn mother loose with it for some long calls to relatives :)

I'm just about as cheap as they come and I use tracfone

go to their web site and look up top for the specials, you can sometimes get a reconditioned phone plus 40 minute card for cost of the card = free phone with charger

they are currently in price war with T-mobile (Duestche Telcom) but I haven't checked out T-mobile yet

downside is - phone does not work as many places as a Verizon kinda phone will but it does moreorless what I needed for 5 years now

I do not work for them

I use tracfone. You have the cost of the phone up front and it comes with like 10min. You need to add time every two months to keep it active.

Their lowest card is 40 units for $19.95
one unit is a minite if used in your calling region. Two units is a minite if roaming. And the phone will tell you if you are roaming.

They also offer a yearly card so you don't need to buy time every two months. The yearly is $89.99 and includes 150 units. This is what I do.

The prepaid phones are good if you only need it for emergencies or limited use.

The three in my family each have one and is the best deal for use.

My son has one of them "prepaid" phones, he has to use so much a month, it cost a bunch for the first 10 minutes of a call, then the rate drops down to like .10 a minute, not sure, but I think what he pays is rediculous, he has Virgin mobile, I think it is. Most companies that are not the prepaid phones will not do what you want, they want a 1-3 year contract to get a rate plan. There a bunch of companies that you can get a package for 30-40 a month and get enough minutes to get you through, unless you plan on using this as a primary phone.

Your looking for something that doesn't exist. First that not a prepaid phone. Prepaid you pay for the minutes up front with the phone. They'll cost you about .25 a minute plus the cost of the phone. You can't get .05 a minute from anywhere other than your landline. Check Wal-Mart they'll have as near to what you describe as anyone but, not in your price range. Its a throw away.....

ain't it amazing how we have so "toys" nowadays? and they all have a cost to them. what is more amazing is how we let the hucksters talk us into all the new gadgets and how we willingly pay through the wazoo for them. i don't think there is anything that is "no nonsense" now.
