Folks- I'm in the market for a cordless saw/drill combo and wanted to ask your opinion on which one to get. Porter-Cable has a 19.2 volt set with a "free" flashlight for $350.00, but I wondered if you think something else is better.

Opinions? Theories?...

I bought the 18 volt Makita saw drill combo. Love it, one day I planted about 24 4x4 fence post and cut about 10 inches off the top with that little saw. Didn't miss a beat. The drill nicely fits my hand and I use it more than my 14 volt Dewalt.

Back when I was shopping for this drill/saw, I looked at all four brands. DeW, PC, Mak and Millwakie(sp). It was a hard choice. Home depot finaly helped in my choice by having the Makita on sale for $189, I grab it and am glad I did.

I believe they're all pretty good, depends on what color you like and how it fits your hand.

Don't know about the saw, but I have a PC Drill and it keeps up with my neighbors Dewalt. The batteries actually out lasted the Dewalt a little.

Good Buy (IMHO)

I've been using a Dewalt 18 volt saw/drill set for about 3 years. Like kimk says it's a nice outfit. Don't know about Porter Cables's cordless tools, but I've had a PC corded drill for several years - it's well-built and works great. I'd expect their cordless stuff is the same.

Don't know 'bout the Porter Cable. We have a Dewalt set a work ( the big ones --18 volt I think ). The drill is excellent, better than any 110 volt drill of its size. The saw is nice, bit too small and light to replace a real 'skill' saw but with sharp carbide blades it does ok on 2x framing lumber. Real handy to use in dificult situations. If I couldn't borrow these I would have to buy a set for myself.
