Have my new 4 wheeler decision narrowed down to one of these models. I would appreciate anyone"s input. The 2x4 250 class fits my needs and budget, and these appear to be the best in the class. Thanks in advance.

Honda, in my experience are the best. Good value, reliability, parts availability, re-sale value.
Started in high school in '79 with a 250 "3 wheeler". Me and my best friend did everything we could think of to that machine and it ran for years, finally traded it in on a bigger 4-wheeler, 350 Honda, was easier on it but still used it hard sometimes, still running with very little work other that routine maintenence. Don't worry about the oil filter, heck they only take 1-2 quarts to change oil, change it every 20 hours or so, CHEAP insurance if you ask me.

I looked at a Recon in 2002. I believe the Ozarks were just out. The had great reviews, but there was no Suzuki dealer close so I never looked closely at one. I think Recons are good ATV's. My biggest concern was that they did not have an oil filter. This is a concern if you are working it hard and using it often. The only way to clean the oil is to change it often. Also, does one of these ATV's have a cooling system? They are mostly oil coolers on smaller ATV's. Cooling systems are important on working machines. Often you will not be going fast enough to get much air movement. The other thing I like is automatic transmissions. For chore work the are ideal. With all that said, both are good bikes. Choose the best dealer. By the way, I did not get a Recon. I decided to get a 4X4. Two wheel drives can do alot of work, 4 wheel drive is a nice luxery. Have fun.

Brian

I had a 1985 Suzuki, had it for 8 years, drove the s*** out of it and it worked great, it was two wheel drive.

I now have a Arctic cat 400 4 X 4, very good quad, if you can possibly afford the 4 X 4 go for it.

Honda is a great quad also., most of the brands today are good machines.

I dont know these models but in general for hunting, crossing streams, unkown trails, you need four wheel drive but for farmyard work the two wheel drive is fine. The Kawasaki bayou 220 used to be the best two wheel drive for price.

It"s very hard to beat the Honda machines--you"ll pay more up-front, but their reliability and resale value are typically the best in the business.

Brian,

I have a Honda Recon. Bought it used a couple years back. It's been real good. Starts reliably and runs well. I did have to replace a kicker pedal because of stripped out splines.

BTW, I am in Fingerlakes area of NY. Where are you ?

I am in extreme SW NY--Clymer--know where that is?

And to the other feller---I did check on an Arctic Cat 250. They are a good machine, same motor as the Ozark. Two things that are a factor for me on the Arctic Cat 1) The local dealer doesn't want to deal on their MSRP prices, and Arctic Cat doesn't have any incentives going. 2) With the Suzuki, they are offering the Ozark for $2950, 4.9% apr, + a $200 Makita gift card. The Arctic Cat is $3350, no good finance deal, and no incentive.

Have you looked into an Arctic Cat 250 2x4? I have a 400 4x4 that I found to be better than any of the other makes and was close to $1000 cheaper than the closest competitor. Go to www.arcticcat.com to find a dealer near you. Out of the 2 you have posted go with the honda.

i made my latest honda purchase based on the shop at the dealer. They sell the big 4(honda,yamaha,suzuki,kawasaki) also polaris and now arctic cat. They have a pole barn where all repairs are kept until worked on and put in their respective brands row. There were 4 hondas, to many of the others to count.
You might look at the rancher 2x4 compared to the recon, alot more machine for very little money
