I've got an older model Makita corded recip saw, probably 10-12 old. Don't have the the model number close by, but I'm wondering: the blade "chuck" is an Allen set screw that repeatedly comes loose during use. Anybody know if these can be upgraded to the more modern quick-release type?

I think the current Makitas still use the same pain-in-the-*** system. At least mine does. It would be a terrific saw if it wasn't for the stupid allen screws.

Please post if you find a solution.

I hear ya. I got to use a friends cordless Dewalt, it was sure slick, but for no more than I need one for, I just can't justify doing away with the Makita. If it goes like my old 12 volt Makita drill, I'll be waiting a long time for it to die. In the meantime, that blade changer is just a POS.

Eaiser to just get Locktite and put on the allen screw threads. Turns into plastic and allows removing with out damage.

Make sure you get the removable(blue Locktite or you'll be sorry. Sometimes gasket seal helps too. I put a new 10-32 socket head in my Milwaukee once in awhile and don't over tighten. Seems to work. I've found when my friend really cranks on it , it seems worse.
