Looking for information on subject. Since living through 15 mostly HOT days after Hurricane Rita without electricity, I am interested in aquiring one of these. I have only the slightest knowledge that such a thing exists. How many KW's can/do they produce? What are some of the better brands? What do you have to be careful about when buying a used one? Where can such a thing be found? In my part of the country they are unheard of as far as I know. Thanks for any information that is forthcoming. I have a MF 283 tractor to run it with. Thanks, Logan

I considered a PTO driven generator, but rejected it because was too hard for my other half to hook up if the power fails while I am traveling. Ended up buying a brand new 10KW Miller Bobcat 250 gas powered welder/generator for under $3000. Now I have a portable welder (well if you call 700lbs all gassed up portable) and an emergency generator that will power the entire house.

Next step is to add a whole house transfer switch (a mere $400 from Graingers) so I can safely feed the house and not fry linemen.

Check out northern tool they have some low HP models and you may get free shipping if they are in the mood .
