I'm going to be building a truck cab using 5052 aluminum for the skin and 6061 for the frame, etc.
Should I use 4043 wire or 5356 where I weld the two together? TIA

Hi Bernie,

I'm not the person you need to be asking on this question as I've only had personal experience with the 4000 & 5000 series AL and I don't like recomending something I have not personal used.

Looking at Lincolns website tho and one of my refference books, I would personal would use 4043 wire as it's very compatiable with both the 5000 and 6000 series AL.

From the spec's it would appear I would concentrate more on the molten puddle on the 6061 material than I would on the 5052, anotherwords I'd let the 5052 flow on to the 6061 as my weld puddle formed on a lapp joint.

Hopefully someone with experience with these two AL alloys will chime in with some personal experience.

Thanks. I'd rather use 4043 wire, it goes on smoother. It's OK then to use it on the 5052 joints too? TIA
