I've bought a few tools from napa auto parts> The other day I took a 1/4 inch ratchet in for warranty. They asked if I had the sales reciept,They said that Napa is going to start requiring a reciept to warranty LIFETIME TOOLS. Any body else had this problem...

Bill, Sorry to hear your problem with Napa. I worked for a Napa store for about 6 years. Any Napa or Carquest or any other parts store is only as good as the person behind the counter or store owner as most are all private owned. I can tell you very few stores will pay there people very well so you end up with alot of people who only are looking at there watch as to what time is it to go home. Please ask to talk to the owner to get your issue resolved. If you find a good parts person let the owner know as there are getting alot fewer of them. Its the knowledge the person has and the effort they put into helping you, not the company name on his or her shirt. That I know of thats the store policy not Napa on needing the receipt. Good luck

Don't forget, many receipts are printed on heat sensitive paper. This means in a few years it's illegible. So even if you have the piece of paper, you've got nothing.

I think most NAPA stores are independently owned, meaning they make up their own rules when it comes to things like this. I remember one I used to be forced to go to closed at 4 on weekdays and had no weekend hours. Customer service varies by location. This is the main reason I buy Craftsman Tools. Lately though, I had a problem with them. I had 2 1/4 inch ratchets that were slipping. My wife returned them for me and they gave her two "new" ones, which were actually rebuilt. They were as bad as the ones I took back in the first place.

The other day i broke my antique 3/4 drive to 1/2 drive adapter. I looked at Sears and a couple other places and they didn't offer one. Finally i saw an S&K brand 3/4 to 1/2 adapter at an local auto parts house and bought it for $18.00. Dang that seemed high to me!!

A couple days after that i was at NAPA and saw a NAPA brand 3/4 to 1/2 adapter, so i asked "how much"? Well, it was $27.00 at NAPA!!!!

S&K was a LOT cheaper and to tell the truth i'd rather have S&K even if it wasn't cheaper!!

Robert

I am sorry that you guys are having a bad experience with NAPA. This has never been a problem for me neither in warranties or in service. I am telling you the truth, they have had very large shipments of tools stolen.

I am sorry but I have a problem with the theft issue. That is an insurance issue. And if someone stole it why would they break the tools and return them for replacement. Doesn't make sense to me. The local store here uses that heat sensitive receipt paper and in 6 months you can't read it anymore, so even if I did keep the receipt it would be worthless. Last purchase I made asked if they still gave 10% off for a AAA card and he said they did. Showed him my card and when I asked where was the discount he said it was in the price. Told him what he charged me was same price as on shelf. Was told I have to come back and talk to manager.

Sorry don't have time for this poor customer service. Didn't mean to vent but I used to really like NAPA, most people there could answer questions or find someone that could.

Its a repeating ring, they are trying to track where the goods are going. I could understand them asking for the receipt here but in a small area where you do bussiness all the time and the guy at the store knows you? C'mon

Sooooo oo wazzat at got'a do with the waranty on a broke'in tool, its the store owner who does not want to tie hiz money up and do the paper werk to git it replaced, Napa could care less. HELO! its called "customer service" thats fergotin at the store level. They let the AZ and PDQ boys slip rite in on'em and NAPA izz pay'in the price. Yes I kin believe NAPA could come up with that Excuse, they have aready used up all the utters.

I have owned my repair shop for 28 years, ‘bout 10 years ago I spent $4K with’em a month, now only 3 to 600.00 a month. That’s the biggest resone why. You play the game the way they tell to fer warranty and then they change the rules to git out of it, believe me a reseat izz worth less, you would think they would figger this out If I lost $30 to 40K a year in sales I would want to know what I could do to git the account back. Yer problem izz the Napa store they are lazy like the one here, it make’em mad iffin ya buy from’em and they git mad if ya don’t.

it's kind of a pain to do , but i have a small drawer in my rollaway tool box for just reciepts for tools and accessories. that way i can always look up the reciept and get my warranty. some reciepts go back many years, but you never know when one is needed.

Most of the parts stores are expressing "lifetime warranty, only to the original purchaser". Plus, you will need proof of purchase. So without the sales receipt, most outfits can't help ya.

Sorry....John,PA

Its not a way to avoid warranty. Napa has had large shipments of tools and parts simply vanish in this part of the country and they are just trying to trace stolen goods.

I haven't had it yet but, I'm sure its just another way to avoid having to stand behind the warranty. Like your going to keep receipts for a small wench or screwdriver for years.....

Keeping the reciepts is fine but they use a thermal paper that fades out. I live in Tucson,AZ
unless you have a air condition tool box the writing still fades

My nieces husband works at a NAPA store. I don't know if it company wide or just his place, but he was telling me that they were trying to do away with retail business. They only want to deal with shops and commercial accounts.

If I had to deal with the thermal paper, I"d run a photo copy of it and staple it to the original.
