Kholer generation troubles

Well my old 30 yr old Kohler 5000 watt generator stopped putting out voltage. The K301 engine is fine just on voltage. Checked the fuse next to the voltage regulator even replace it to make sure. still no voltage I checked the for voltage on both sides of the circket brakers - nothing. I visually inspected (as best as I could with out taking it apart) the windings and didn't see anything loose or borken

Suggestions? Help!

Thanks, great advice - just needed to flash the fields.

I tried the drill method but that wasn't enough.

A friend on my daughters soccer team suggested that I create a short extension cord with two male heads plug one end in the generator and then start it up. Once started plug the other in an outlet. It triped the circuit in my garrage but got the generator going.

Has it been sitting for a while or jolted when it wasn't running? It may need to have the field(s) flashed to restore the residual magnetism. Are there brushes? They maybe stuck or the slip ring has a none conductive film on it. One would think it should be worn off by now however.
