Quincy #308 Still Leaks Back Slightly

In looking at my Quincy to determine why it was leaking back through the intake when compressor is pressured up and stopped I discovered the six bolts atop the valve assembly were quite loose. I tightened them as tight as I dare and my leak has almost stopped. It only has a SLIGHT leak now. Could I use a little RTV gasket cement on this gasket? I'm thinking my valves are fine. You'd best blow down your compressor and pull off those caps. Those six bolts hold the top cover of the unloader assembly on. These are not meant to be torqued down terribly snugly, as the rubber diaphragm underneath them will crush, and you will also deform the aluminum cap. If you have leaking out through the intake, and it is caused by this, I bet dollars to doughnuts that one or both (if there are two) of these rubber diaphragms are torn and need to be replaced.

Roger, it is evident that you know air compressors like few others so stay close at hand and be our guru on all things compressor. I have an old but very treasured Champion Model NR150 two stage that needs rings. Champion says it is obsolete and have no parts. I doubt Champion or any other manufacturer made that 1st piston ring, leaving that to a supplier. Can you suggest how I can possibly find rings to fit?

I've matched rings up from other applications by using a Hastings piston ring catalog. Sometimes, the rings were absolutely dead on, both in thickness and diameter. I remember using a set for a 1922 Alfa Romeo in something or other. Engine shops may be able to supply rings, or a catalogue. In a pinch, you can turn out ring grooves a little, or file fit rings.
