I currently have two pole sheds that sit 20 feet apart. I am looking to increase my indoor storage space and thought that an easy way to do this would be to put a roof over the 20 feet in between. I have many questions the first one is what type of rafter should I use? I messed up building the sheds as one shed the poles and rafters are on 9ft spacing and one they are on 8 ft. So the rafter cannot be attached to both poles of each shed. Me next question is why kind of gutter would be needed? On shed is 56ft long and 40ft wide, the other is 72 ft long and 30 feet wide. The 72 ft long build has 14 ft sidewalls and the other has 12 ft side walls. They are both on 4/12 pitch. I live in cental illinois so the snow load is not great but there may be some. I would like to keep as much height as possible. Has anyone done anything like this and what were the results thanks

You will have to add some additional poles in either the 8 or 9 foot row. Extend the roofs to a common point. Leave a two inch space. You can use a standard 4 inch gutter under the space. Place a drop between each 10 foot legnth of gutter. The gutter can be level. Have the drops go into an 8 inch pvc pipe which is graded to the end of the building (1/2 inch to the foot) use the appropriate hole saw to make openings for the drops in the pvc. If you live in snow country you may have trouble with snow load because there is no place for the snow to slide off. You can hang the pvc just under the gutter. I used this idea to drain about a half acre of roof on a free stall barn in NY. Ed

Suggest you post a photo showing the end view of the two sheds. That would help me anyway to think about a solution.
