The drill method has always worked for me .The key is TO SPIN THE DRILL IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION YOU HAVE IT SWITCHED TO. IF NO SWITCH SPIN THE DRILL BACKWARD .IF A SWITCH ,SWITCH IT TO FORWARD AND SPIN IN BACKWARD. Earl

Flashing The Field in reply to Big Mike(Mi.), 10-22-2005 13:42:36
There were a couple of references on the internet saying that the stators went bad on Generac generators. Here are 3 different methods of flashing the field. I don't know if they will work or not, it's just info out on the internet. So, as with anything on the internet, take them with a grain of salt and a degree of caution.

Start by "flashing" the fields. That is the correct term, with an AC generator such as this.

"Polarizing" generally refers to restoring the residual magnetism in a DC generator, often on an antique car or tractor.

I simple was to "flash the fields" is detailed at the link below:

i'm with mac. if it hasn't been ran in a long time it will need polarizing like he said. ask some small engine shop how to do it. it something real simple like arching two contacts with a paper clip the best i remember. keep it cranked regual and plug something into it to keep it polarized.

From the manual:
1. Circuit breaker open
2. Poor connection or defective cord set
3. Connected device is bad
4. Fault in generator
