Go down to an auto parts store that handles paint. Get "Aircraft Paint Remover". This will remove any paint. I have used it in restoring cars for 20 years, there is no chemical better than this for what you want to use it. Be careful, powerful stuff.

Here is a receipe that was put forth on the 8N board. I use it and it works absolutely great. Is cheap as heck also, which is a bonus. I have only used this on metal, so I can't say for other surfaces. Mix a little water, lye, and a tiny amount of cornstarch to make a gel just like the commercial stuff. You can add a little more lye if not strong enough. I can mix either a cup full of stripper at a time, or more, if the job warrants it. It helps if the water is warm and I find that it mixes easier if I mix the water and cornstarch first to make the gel and then add the lye last. USE EYE & HAND PROTECTION !!!!
(You can get the can of lye at the grocery store in the drain cleaner department.)

Don't use lye on aluminum parts...lye is a very strong base (opposite of acid), and will strongly react, i.e., dissolve, aluminum.

If you buy paint stripper, buy Old Dad;s type. Comes with a spray bottle and is the best I've ever seen. About 19.00 a gal. at Sears, etc.

Down to bare metal? Use Easy Off oven cleaner, heavy duty type.

This is for people who find them selves stripping a lot of small parts. Use a 55 gal steel drum, water and lots of lie. (I do'nt remember the ratio). You need a source of heat. Gas or even a wood fire. Heat to low boil or simmer. Hang parts with wire. I have left parts over night. they will come out clean as a whistle. Do'nt do this to any white metal. You wont have anything left. You can put a lid on the drum when your done, and use it again later.

I forgot to mention caution and common sense. Goggles or face shield and water handy to rinse any possible splashes or spills on your self.
