I have to replace a weepy gas tank in my Mustang. Looks straightforward enough in the manual, but I was wondering if there are any "gotchas". I have the tank pretty much empty. Not looking forward to this job..

Well, it went ok. Just took a whole afternoon, which, by the way, was probably the last one good enough for riding my motorcycle.
No big hiccups, just broke one of those fiddly "duckbill" clips that hold the gas lines on. Probably doubled the value of the car though..

Here is a real good article about your project. Hope it helps. Seems to be a harmless pop up or two though.

Depending on the age of your Mustang, the biggest potential trouble spot might be that the nuts on the straps that hold the tank in are rusted. Use plenty of penetrating oil on them, since the hot wrench might not be a good idea in this case. Also, you might want a way to support the tank, wood blocks, floor jack, or something so that when you let the tank down enough that you can get the hoses, sender, etc. unhooked, it wont be just hanging there.

Dont see much of a problem, just sort of time consuming. Just be sure you disconnect the battery. Dont need any sparks.

I replaced the fuel pump in a Dodge Stratus which involved r/r the tank. It was a remarkably simple and straightforward job. Remove 4 bolts, unhook the filler hose, drop tank. Only tough part was hooking the filler hose back up, not much room for my hand to re-position the clamp.
