I am sorry to ask again, but I am looking for an air compressor and I need some help deciding what to get. I have seen discussions on here before about volume and CFM, etc., but I just can't seem to find them when I need them. I am looking for a compressor that will run a sandblaster for occassional and light use. Having that, I could run anything else in my shop fairly well. Can someone direct me to the discussion or give me a quick primer? Thanks for your time.

Depends on how long you want to be able to work it and run it each time between air pumping back up. The more volume in CFM and capacity of tank the better. Get all the largest one you can afford and go from there. Plumb away from the compressor some and use a good water trap. Plumb it so have a drop trap made from pipe at each outlet valve with a drain on bottom also. Another water trap on your blaster is a good idea also. Having more capacity than need will keep the air cooler with less moisture in it if you used proper water traps and filters in plumbing. They use to show some good air plumbing guides in the TTP catalogs www.tptools.com Good luck.

Rule of thumb, Higher CFM the better, If you can get a 2 stage unit get one, if not a single stage will be fine aslong as it puts out 18cfm or so, not many single stage units put out that much unless they have 4 pistons or so, so stick with the 2 stage.

Check with the sandblaster tool manufacturer. Most cases they will ask a lotta questions and give you guidelines as to the CFM requirements for the piece of equipment that they are selling.

I have a 2 hsp., 10cfm @ 100 psi ccompressor system that GRAINGERS nolonger lists. It does a find job with my sandblaster set-up.

Hope this helps. John,PA
