Hey guys, I may be out of character for this forum but I need some advise. I am considering selling and buying some stuff on ebay etc. I have a 1 ton truck for sale and would like to buy a torch and other things. What is your experience with selling and buying over the internet? Thanks.

When selling on Ebay, I ask for payment within 10 days from end of auction / Buyer arranges and pays all transportation charges / I will accept personal checks but will hold item for 10 days till check clears the bank / I normally ask that the item being sold be picked up within 2 to 3 months from end of auction if item is to big to ship. I always try to be honest. I have really enjoyed Ebay and look forward to it everyday. Good luck!

I have sold and bought a few things on ebay.

1 make sure there is a picture or you really buying as is

2 like any auction know what you want to spend

3 follow the advice on ratings etc.

I have bought a few things some people are companies and they are selling extra inventory so you can get something brand new. But know the price of what you want to buy.

Be clear in the payment and delivery writing.

Use paypal - they get a small cut but it is a credit card and you can cancel the charge if you get ripped off.

Ask questions of the seller

Other than that it I have sold stuff that I would have just thrown away.

I bought a 400$ chipper in great garage kept shape that goes for over 1000$ new...

I have sold on eBay for 3+ years and have only had a couple of problems with deadbeat bidders and 2 things broken by the PO in transit.
I only sell old stuff and things that I get for dirt cheap at garage sales etc.
All of my feedback is real and deserved.
Feedback ratings are the way that buyers and sellers evaluate each other at a glance.
Do not go by how high the number is, but by the ratio of good to bad. I have well over 500 positive comments and only one bad one that was from a disgruntled customer because the PO broke the item and the buyer went off half-cocked.

Caveat Emptor...Buyer Beware...Ask questions of the seller before bidding and if you do not like the answers, don't bid!

Thanks, guys. I have already bought some stuff on ebay but have never sold anything before. I'm a little worried about dealing over long distances on a truck. Thanks for the comments. Take a look and tell me what my chances on a sale are. Stan

A lot of the stuff is overpriced junk. Invariably, the quality is, at best, a little less than as described. Remember, the seller controls the deal. They have your money, and they all know you can't afford to sue someone over a few hundred bucks. Be careful about all those praises for sellers. A lot of it is artificial.

Hi rollo, a friend buys alot of high priced antique firearms over the internet and He uses a escrow agent to handle the transaction just for that reason. I think He said it cost Him $25 service fee plus postage for a $3500 rifle he just bought and had to return because it was a $1000 rifle at best, rusted pitted bore, action was pitted, etc: when it was supposed to be in "mint" condition. So he lost maybe $75 with fees and postage but he has $3425 in his pocket!

I have bought numerous items on the net, and ebay. Know the source. On ebay, you can click on the sellers profile, and see if they have any negative feedback. I am wary if they only accept money orders, cashiers checks. One thing on ebay, I have noticed alot of the items sell for more than you can get a new one for. Do your research.

Thanks for all the comments. I was worried about how the sale would go (dealing with people out of tow or state) but it is not getting bids so I guess there is nothing to worry about except I seill have to keep making the payments looks like.
