I need a good vacuum cleaner to clean my pellet stove. What would you recomend. I have used shop vac brands and they blow all dust out the top of the machine. Is there one out there that doesn,t use the paper filter? Or better yet how do you clean your stove? Maybe i need to make a tool to clean out the ashes. Thanks for your help Delbert.

Rigid is the 1 for me have 2. NO dust out the exhaust. The have a car style pleated filter that you can clean. Use it to clean out 2 corn stoves and around the shop. There is enough suction I can suck the left over seed wheat / Soybeans from my Sunflower drill when I finish planting.

Get the biggest Craftsman. They actually work better than the more expensive Shop-Vac brand IMHO.

We use a shop-vac to clean our pellet stove. Get the bag type filter that fits over the inlet of the shop-vac and leave the foam and paper filter on the motor.
Works good for us. So far we have had good luck with our shop-vac. I use the same unit on my bead blast cabinet.

Several years ago I bought a 16 gal wet/dry craftsman vac. Made by emerson. I wouldnt trade if for anything else that I know of off hand. The new ones are supposedly even better, made by I understand rigid.

I have a large Shopvac which is absolutely useless even though it looks like it ought to be big and powerful, and a Rigid which is loud as hell but sucks really well. In both cases I switched to the GoreTex filters. Go with a Rigid

I have a rigid from Home Depot and it is a great shop vac. They have a 5000 something filter that is a fine dust filter check it out I think you would be happy with one.

I built a contraption for my shop vac when doing drywall sanding a few years ago. It works on the principle of a dust collector system.

Find yourself an old 5 gallon bucket, with the lid. You'll need two poly pipe fittings that fit your vac's hose, and also another length of vacuum hose. (I used a 25' length of sump pump discharge hose for the second length).

Drill hole to fit the pipe fittings in the lid of the bucket. Attach the hose from the vac to one of the fittings, and the additional hose to the other. Put a few inches of water in the bucket, and vacuum away. MOST of the fine particles get trapped in the water, never getting to the shop vac.

Prior to using this method, fine drywall dust really did a number on my vac. I keep this setup handy whenever I need to vacuum up any fine material. Works well for me.

Buy a 'cleanstream' gore-tex filter to replace the original paper fiasco and you will be pleased.

Craftsman makes fillters for stopping fine particles or you can vent your exhaust outside.

Get one that will stay upright when moved. I have a Craftsman and have to keep half of a cement block inside just do it will stay on it's feet. PITA.

Delbert,

I bought a Craftsman brand last year. One of my pet peeves was a vac tipping over when pulled. The craftsman is aroung ten gallon, squat, rolls easy, has a good heavy duty pleated filter plus one those those foam things. I"ve used it on dust and dirt and sawdust and haven"t noticed any thing coming through the filter.

Of the 4 vac"s I"ve owned over the past 40 years, it is the best.

Shop-Vac is a rip-off outfit... I paid over $600.00 for a Stainless Shop-Vac for our shop, it would not pull a greased string out of a cat's a$$. I called the factory, they wanted me to pay them to check it out... I tossed it & bought a 50 dollar one at K-Mart...
