Trouble finding rough-in sewer stubs in a concrete

About a month ago had a new basement concrete floor poured. Plumber had roughed-in sewer stubs for a shower, toilet, sink, and vent stack pipe.
I now can't find the sink stub as the concrete was poured too thick over it. I have tried tapping the floor with a hammer while someone else listened over the vent stack for a "hollow sound". No luck so far. I know the general area to with-in a square foot but hate breaking up more new concrete floor than necessary. I don't want to drill any small holes as I have floor heat tubing in the floor. Any other ideas on how to find the exact location of the sink stub? Thanks.

Assuming you will set a vanity and you can guess within a foot of where the drain is, any concrete you broke would be covered when you set the vanity...or worse case scenario, patch the busted area, the floor covering will hide the damage...

Got a straight run where you could slide in a steel fish tape and measure the distance and direction to the 90?

Tape a strong magnet to the end of the fish tape and then push the fish tape to the end of the run and use a compass at the surface of the concrete to find the magnet?

A better idea. in reply to far north , 10-09-2005 16:54:39
run some hot water down the drain, then scan the floor with an infrared detector.

??? Run a snake down, as suggested in the other post, and then find the end of the snake with a Zircon TriScanner ???

Another method that might work is use the snake and a metal detector....if you don't have too much rewire in th concrete.

If you were really luck, maybe you could work a sewertape backwards from the cleanout to the sink drain. If that didnt work I would call the guy who did the floor and chew him a new one for pouring over the roughins.
