Sandblasting stainless steel

Is it safe to sandblast stainless steel, or would you remove the stainless properties, I have a couple stainless pots with burnt crap on the bottom I can sandblast it off but Im not sure if it would rust.

You wont remove the stainless properties. the more fine the media the better the result - will give it that brushed look

The best stuff is chrushed walnut media. Get it at any good size gun show and use your siphon type blaster. If you want to try this other "type" of media it will work as well but a little slower. Use your siphon blaster and stick the hose in a box of baking soda. It works GREAT and will not mess up the finish. Jeffcat

Stainless steel sandblasts just fine. Don't use steel shot as your blast media, but almost anything else is ok.

Stainless properties are not just on the surface like cladding or plating; they go all the way through.
