Can 6 V lead battery be charged with 12 V charger?

I have an old 6 V lead acid battery in a 9N. I have an old 6/12 volt charger- and a newer 12 volt with a "desulfator" function. I am wondering if I can charge the 6 V battery with the 12 V charger and use the desulfator function. I am guessing it will work- but will need to keep adding water as it will "boil" it off much faster.

Any comments or experience?

Hook a 12 volt head light in the line so power has to go through it. The head light will glow and take enough of the amps so it will not blow. In the REALLLLLY old days they would charge car batteries with house voltage! On the stand in the store would be 20 six volt lead acid batteries. In the line was a 100 watt light bulb for load control, and a mercury rectifier vacuum tube. The tube looks like a big old TV power tube. Keeps them well charged and the there were also batteries for home radios that you would exchange! Six volt for the filaments and a 90 volt hotshot for the plate voltage. Now you can stick 2000 tunes in your ear! Where are we going? Jeffcat

I've brought back more than one 6V battery with a 12V charger. Works just as you suspect it will.

NO! Use the 6 volt charger. Using a 12 volt charger on a 6 volt battery you take the risk of the battery blowing up. BOOM.

You can hook 2 6v batteries in series and use a 12v charger, but not just one battery.
