I found a 30 foot fifth wheel trailer that has everything ,but the floor removed. Has anyone used one of these to haul anything with. I haven't looked at it yet, they want $300 for it. Just wondering if it is worth it as a hay and/or tractor hauler. The biggest tractor I would haul on it is my Farmall M.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Bobg

They don't make the greatest trailer but not to bad either I have one made from about a 30 footer that i use alot it is not reinforced like it should be but works ok it only has 2x12s running crosswise for a deck and i haul a 4000 ford with loader and ballast on it with no problems and a friend hauled a 2 1/2 ton truck from los angles to medford or on it (that was a bad idea) lots of flats so it can be done . good luck mike

Just keep in mind that a brand new goosneck flatbed trailer with 20 ft deck and 5 ft dovetail, with a 14,000 pound rating can be purchased for $4,000, even less sometimes. I know there is a big differance between $300 and $4,000, but the $4,000 trailer is ready to go, no work required, and will safely and legally haul your M, your hay, and whatever else you may want to put on it.

The axles should have some kind of load rating, start there then measure and "judge" the frame. I have my doubts.

Bob, this trailer was a 32" travel trailer that I put together for about a grand. A person could probably go less by using scrap yard material. 80"- 4" x 1/4 channel iron 100" - 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 1/4 angle 60" - 2 x 2 x1/4 angle 5" x 30" diamond plate 8" x 30" x 1" grating 2" x 6" pressure treated wood 325- 3" x1"4 self tapping deck screws All lights from Napa

First thing you may want to do is check what the axles are rated for and what condition the brakes are in, those brakes and drums ain"t cheap! My deck is 92" x 18" and the trailer wieghs in at 2975#. Any steel I took out to shorten it I put back into the sub-frame to make it stronger. HTH, Richard

It won't be strong enough for, as they are made to be light. I wouldn't waste my time unless you want to make a storage shed out of it.

I sincerely doubt that it will hold up to hauling hay or tractors.

Remember that does not make it as strong as an original non-camper 5th wheel, as the walls and top were structural components -- sort of like converting a horse trailer to a tractor hauler.
