New to this site (my tool forum disapeared) and being a farm boy this site kinda fits in. Anyways, I have been eyeing a nice tool cart/chest for quite some time to replace my lower than low quality chest. Not all of us can afford snap-on, mac, et/al but I was kinda eyeing the new 52" Craftsman chest. I know I could probably save on the name by buying a Waterloo but with shipping charges being high due to the fuel cost I figured the price would be close to the same.

Of course a John Deere chest would be even better but talk about paying for the name!

Think I'd get the craftsman if I were you, they have a good box today. I was at the MacTools box plant in the 70s, they made 75 % of their own boxes at that time, not beach. I have craftsman and Snapon, use my snapon in the shop, with the roller drawers, won't have anything but. and Craftsman has them too. If you're going to put anything heavy in the drawers, you'll need them too.

Sear's is a good choice!

But, do you have a Home Depot convenient? Their Homak range is worth looking at.

How about a Grainger? As a farmer, I assume you are incorporated and can buy through Grainger as a small business. Grainger has Kennedy, Waterloo and Dayton.

If it were me, I'd take forever in making up my mind and there are so many alternatives it might take years. Maybe the logical solution is to buy the one you like at Sears.

Believe it or not I found a Craftsman 10 drawer tool cabinet in the dump ground. Took it to a car wash and cleaned it up, put a little WD-40 on the drawer slides and I've used it for 12 years.

Another suggestion is to talk to the local Snap-on dealer. He may have a reposessed box that he needs to unload. I got a nice roll cab that way for 1/2 price, and it looks just like new.

You always pay for a name.Truth is the older mac, snap on,craftsman etc all came off the same line at beach industries, and are all high quality.Beach was bought out buy stanely in the early 80's,and the quality of the box'es and the jobs have suffered.Russ Beach cared about products and employees, stanely cares about profit margines.

Hi,

I've got a late 80's early 90's big black craftsman, I-beam construction (best they made at the time). Very impressed. Closed the garage door on a completely extended drawer, didn't hurt a thing. Got REAL stupid and dropped the whole shebang off the end of a trailer, COMPLETELY loaded with tools, 1500 to 2000 lbs. Didn't hurt ANYTHING, no buckles, dents, nothing. Scratched the paint a little. Still not quite as nice as some NASCAR quality mucky mucks, but I've been satisified. Don't ask about the two Craftsman routers though! (nope don't own them anymore, took'em right back)
