The subject of impact wrenches has started me to wonder where the "name brand" ones are made. For example the 12 volt Dewalt for 378 dollars list, for 189. Compared to Harbor freight 18 volt for about 50 dollars. I am not saying its wrong to want or to buy the name brand, just wondering if they are made in China too. Would any of you that have such, look at it and tell me where it was made. I don't mind a bit paying for quality and American made things, but it burns me to pay extra just cause they paint on an old established name. Example: Belkin wireless network card, about 60 dollars- less stupid 20 dollar rebate--MADE IN CHINA.

The difference is engineering, metalurgy, bearings, windings, hp, amps, endurance and a bunch of other stuff. You will get what you pay for. I have bought the cheap stuff to get by and there were times I came out ahead. There were other times that I ended up buying again cause the first purchase died before the job did.

Bought a 12 volt Firestorm Mod. 120210 impact wrench from Lowes for $30. I like that model because it has the 1/4" hex locking driver for the standard screw drive bits. It is made in China but has the company headquarters located in Toson, MD. The torque is rated at 840 inch lbs. but it doesn't have enough torque to loosen a 5/16" small engine head bolt. It fills my needs as I use it to drive or remove screws.

It may be that the name brand models are built to different specs. and so may be better designed for durability and performance even though they may all be made in China.
