O/T Need 12/28 nut for fishing reel

It's an odd size, but I have confirmed that it isn't metric, and isn't 12/24. I can get them at Fastenal, but they want me to buy a bag of 100 of them. I don't need that many for sure. Any of you out there happen to have one of these oddballs that I might "aquire"? It's for my son's old Shakespeare reel, he likes it better than his open-face and wants to get it fixed. Thanks!

I would hit a few garage sales this weekend. Seems like there are always rods and reels pretty cheap. Part one out and you will have your nut! And other spares as well.Or maybe a "new" reel!

I came across a 12-28 screw in a Stanley/Bailey No5 plane the other day. Actually, it fell out and was lost from the toe of the handgrip. Not wanting to buy a box of 100, I tapped the thread to 1/4-20 and found a matching look-alike screw in my odd ball screw box.

Try McMaster Carr at www.mcmaster.com for smaller quantities and they would have taps & dies that size also as would www.mscdirect.com I have a 12-28 tap & die for using on Wico magnetos. Could make one nut from some hex stock, brass, steel or aluminum. Like the other guy said a gun shop might have the taps to make one nut too.

check with your local gunsmith, that is a common thread for older guns, if he dont have one he can make one easy enough.

Coastline sevice center in Goldsboro, NC would have it sorry no # do a search fer shakespear and they may be listed as a repair center fer'em. I have not needed enny repairs or parts in years hope they are still around , a good place to deal with.
