OT- 93 Sonoma Transmission

I picked up a Sonoma w/245k on it this weekend cheap.The automatic will spool through the gears including OD, some harder shifts than others, but as soon as you take the load off by coasting or stopping, it "falls" out of gear. This will happen in any gear. Here's the strange part. When you shut off the engine for ten seconds and refire, the tranny works again! Any opinions on this problem? Thanks

Lots of miles, Wonder if the oil and filter has ever been changed? however I would have a diagnostic check made on it, could be as simple as a chip for the tranny in the computer. I had a 93 thats didnt shift right and dealer changed a chip, worked fine after that.
