Oxygen tanks?

some guy in the local buy/sell paper is selling "Oxygen Tanks" all sizes, are these tanks the same tanks you would use for argon, or C-25 mix? do they all have the same pressure ratings and all?

When my dad took tanks to local dist to be filled they wanted to see his papers to prove ownership. Then they were about to take the tanks away from him. He told them they were salvaged from the delaware river after a big flood. Also he told them If they wanted to claim the tanks they were in for a lot of trouble claming the tanks be cause one of those tanks exploded when it was sucked in a 30 inch pump on a dredge he had worked on and he did not think they wanted to claim responsibility for that and open that can of worms. They told him to take the tanks and get out of there. Same outfit lost the 20 year lease on a different set of tanks he had and they wanted to charge him for the time he had the tanks. He went home and got the copy of the lease he had on file to set them straight.

I looked at the collars on 8 different tanks from the same supplier at work today and there was quite a variety of names.I guess like Charles said alot of companies get bought out and have various tanks.In my state any garage sale tank would be stolen.Call the gas co and ask if they fill b-stard bottles as they will call them.

make sure you can prove ownership of these tanks. If the seller cannot produce papers where he purchased the tanks legimately, I would not touch them. Look at the collar on the tank for a name (Holox, Airco, etc) and if so, it is probably a stolen tank. Even if it is a firm that is out of biz, the other outfits probably bought up the tanks and have ownership of them.

I would never go there. Given the pressure in an oxygen tank (2200 psi +/-) when fresh, and assuming you can get any reputable supplier to fill it a problem can be catastrophic. In my area it is a crime to put a gas in any tank other than the one it is intended.

not even close argon tanks are totally different. alot of places want a title for the tank to fill it and they want it to be thier thank or yours after pressure tested. and if its your tank some companies have a policy it has to be pressure tested every time check with your supply house before buying if you buy them for oxygetn tanks which is only what i would use them for
