OT Soda Pop Vending Machine Broken

Hi All,

I have older Dixie Narco soda pop vending machine with a bad compressor.

I was wondering where I could get a new compressor for it? Anyone know what a fair price for a compressor would be?

The tag on the machine says it uses R12, but I would think a new compressor would use the newer style refrigerant...?

The model number of the machine is DNCB 240/138-6.

Sure would be fun to have a beer or soda drop out of this thing and be cold!

Swapping out the compressor is pretty easy if you're handy with an acetylene torch. You'll need to use silver solder to braise the copper lines back together. The only other tricky part is you need to vacuum out the system before you recharge it. If you don't have a vacuum pump you can pick up a venturi type pump from Harbor Freight really cheap.
Once you solder in the new compressor, vacuum down the system and let is sit for a while (check for leaks). If it all passes SLOWLY add refrigerant to the low pressure side to the specs posted earlier.

Being a former vending guy you can get these rebuilt in about any shop they are not hard to find parts for although this is the reason machine was trashed cost more to fix than worth . But if you go to local soda distribator of soda they may have some smaller can vendors and they may give you one or sell you one cheap that works bacause the big soda folks are phasing out can vendors .

Talk to your local refigeration repair man. He should be able to fix you up.Johnstone website may have a compressor for you to price. Hard to do any refrigeration work yourself these days with all the regulation.

I referred your question to a friend that spent 18-years in the vending division of a major soda company. His response:

Yes, it held 240 12 oz cans. Should be a readily available 1/4 compressor. We converted them to R-134A all of the time, replace the compressor with a R-134A compressor and replace the filter dryer and charge them up. Only difference in the compressors is the oil, need special oil for R-134A.

He added that they were phasing them out due to brittle wiring. Also the early models used plain styrofoam insulation which held condensation and caused a corrosion problem.

I"d go for it myself.
